I love Christmas music, but as a general rule, I cannot stand when pop singers sing Christmas music. They never sing it "straight" for lack of a better word. They are always scooping and sliding all over the place. The ones I especially hate are:
Jingle Bell Rock
Feliz Navidad
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
Chipmunk Song
I do love the Charlie Brown Christmas theme.

ACK!!! As if hearing morose or silly Christmas songs aren't bad enough, I was sent a site that has countdown tickers until Christmas!! It had what to do each day, until the big day - at which time, I assume, you get to drink eggnog until you're silly and paste mistletoe on your forehead! But I did like this:
And irishpipes, you are sooooo right! Take a wonderful song, give it to a celebrity, and it's a disaster! I think the only professional singers whose Christmas songs I like are Twila Paris and B.E. Taylor (both of whom are simply wonderful people - maybe that's the secret!).
Of course, Silver, you are right about the drummer boy. Drummer boys belong in armies of old, and not in a manger!

I actually like the Little Drummer Boy, even if it isn't theologically sound...
I HATE "Do you hear what I hear".
Edited to say:
I also hate:
Jingle Bell Rock
Feliz Navidad
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
Chipmunk Song

Bumping.
I forgot to add "Step Into Christmas," by Elton John. Elton, I love you, but this song just sucks.
Also "My Only Wish This Year" - Britney Spears
And "Do You Hear What I Hear"

All I Want for Christmas is You - Amy Grant How Cheesy
I do like Kylie Minogue's new version of Santa Baby...but mainly because I didn't even know it wasn't the old version until I saw the artist displayed on the screen at Media Play.

I hate most modern renditions of classics. Britney, you shouldn't be singing Christmas carols. Stick to pop trash.
I despise "Blue Christmas" by Elvis. Ick.

OK... just mere weeks later I have developped an overwhelming love for Do You Hear What I Hear and Jingle Bell Rock. I no longer have a deep abiding love for Little Drummer Boy. More like a passing fondness.

The Twelve Months of Christmas -- oh, wait, It's the Twelve Days of Christmas.
It only seems like months (of agony) every time I hear it.

I have to say that, if I hear "Dominic the Donkey" one more time this season, I may have to hurt a disc jockey.
I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas is also on my list of Most Hated - I've hardly heard any decent songs this year, so I finally broke out an older Twila Paris CD and started to smile.
And just because I do have a very sick sense of humor, if anyone has the words for "Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire (hot sauce dripping from their toes..."), I would be eternally grateful!

At the place I volunteer at, the clients are mostly Mexicans who don't speak English, so they played Mexican Christmas carols. They were in all Spanish and set to a salsa beat....funky music, but I like traditional better.

If I hear "Mary Did You Know?" one more time, I think I'll scream. I think the DJs at our Christmas station are obsessed.

Ours was ever "Chestnuts Roasting On an Open Fire" and "Winter Wonderland". I cannot be held responsible for what I'd do if I heard either of these songs one more time.

Atlanta has a station that plays nothing but carols from mid-November on. This year they were obsessed with Andy Williams..."It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" , "Happy Holidays", etc. I think it was because he did a concert here a couple of weeks ago (it was at 5 PM, what was with that?) I turned off the radio a whole lot during this season!
