Ok, so here's what I would do...
Make up cd's with POP songs on them, especially anything from Nsync, BSB, Britney, etc. and have them playing the whole night.
I would also get the cd covers from online and blow them up to a nice size, and post them around the room.
For name tags, everyone would have their name and a POP song to go with it. (you could even have a game time where everyone sings part of the song that is on their name tag)
For food I would set out bowls full of Popcorn, Pop Rocks and Bubble Gum, maybe even Otter Pops (or some kind of Popcycles) and definately have a lot of soda (or how people from the mid west call them---POP)
Ok, back to decorations... Go to a party supply place and get anything that has to do with music. I know that the place by my house has a bunch of decs with music notes and stuff like that.
If you don't have a party supply place near you, or one that doesn't have music decs, then make your own... Construction paper will be your new best friend!
I like the whole idea about making stars and putting sisters faces on them! You can totally make that one work out nice!
Also, on not such a "pop" note, (hehe... get it?) to fill up more room on the walls, make posters with different Phi Sig facts, and stuff that you're chapter does, ie. philanthropies, events, etc. If you need help with the Phi Sig facts, just ask... Us Phi Sig GCer's know A LOT when it comes to Phi Sig!!!
Um, yeah, I can't really think of anymore right now... But I'm sure I'll come up with more!
GOOD LUCK!

Well, if you do go with the POP theme. . .you also don't want to be TOO cheesy. Some of the sisters might groan and rushees. However, if you're doing rush on a budget, I have a couple of suggestions:
POP music is more than just NSYNC(since they are no longer together) and Brittney(since she's really not that popular with music anymore). Try going the route of a number of people. . .Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake, John Mayor, Michelle Branch.
What I would suggest is taking a pop song and decorating a table with each theme song. Like Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body" could feature socials and "parties". John Mayer's "No Such Thing" could feature the involvements in clubs and college campus that sisters participate in. You could even do a table for the alumnae with "This I Promise You" featuring all of the alum who have gotten married and had kids. Let them come in and bring stuff for it. Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent" could feature each sister out on their own performing some kind of philanthrophy work.
If you don't have the money to blow up cd covers, have everyone make their own.

Another idea... if you need an activity.. you can put the name of a "pop" star on everyone's back (so they can't see it) and people have to ask each other questions about who they are. It gets people talking... you may want to give 5 minutes in the beginning of the party for this so that you still have time to really "talk" and get to know people.. but that can TOTALLY break the ice !!!

Game idea is have everyone have the name of a celebrity taped on their back (so they can't see it) ... then they have to ask people questions about who they are... am I a girl or guy.. was my last movie successful etc... this is a great ice breaker game... WELCOME TO GC !!!!

games are fun! the one glitter650 suggests is a great way to break the ice. the one that i like is charades. you could have them guess movie icons or something like that.its fun because it makes everyone just be themselves.

Theta Mu's way of Formal Recruitment

We have formal recruitment. We are from a small school with only two national sororities. I know some big schools have set days for Rush, like philanthropy night, meet the greeks, skit night etc. Our Panhellenic does not plan anything required for us to do. If our chapter would like to then we can do it; but that is about it. We almost always do a philanthropy night anyway. We also do not have a house. (no GLOs on campus do)
So our chapter does do a tradaition type deal where we have a themed recruitment. PHI SIG GOES TO HOLLYWOOD is our week long theme. Each night will tie into the other one. It might sound strange to you if you don't do it this way but we really like it.
since i have been active here our themes:
Fall 2000: Colors
(the year I rushed. the first night was Blue and was our philanthropy night. the second was Gold and was kinda like the "shinning star" night--we did dance rountines. and the third night was pink-for sisterhood. and of course the last night was pref)
Fall 2001: Love in Las Vegas (each night was a different hotel)
Spring 2002: Patriotic theme (did an ice cream social, etc. ) (this was vision events; COB)
Fall 2002: When Phi Sigs Rule the World (we did a philanthropy night, a sisterhood night, and the third was called: wild wild phi sigs and was a western style with real hay and everything; we made up dances and performed them)
Spring 2003: Phi Sig back in Time (50's night and 70's night. again vision events. COB)
The other National on campus does not do a themed type rush and their week seems kinda crazy. (I think this is also because you see ours which all ties in together then you see theirs) But our way works really really well for our chapter and it is a lot of fun. After recruitment we get such wonderful compilments on our rush, its great!
I hope that clears things up for you.

I am from Theta Mu too. I love to hear other's themes, as I have not been able to go to Rush since graduation because I live a distance away (though Heather does keep us informed ).
Weekly Themes that I remember are:
Monopoloy- first night was the monopoly board and prospectives circled the board to meet Philanthropy table, Sisterhood table, Bursar table, etc., a night at the Boardwalk, a night of jail, Pref was Park Place. Our shirts rocked- was a monopoly board on back and each square was a sponsor, so we made money off the shirts instead of paying any for them and they looked great. Center of board on shirt was the Rush info.
Sports- one night Baseball theme, one night football theme, an event of Volleyball in the Quad, an event of watching sports at the dorms, one night of Rodeo where we line-danced. COB event later that semester was skating. I think we even had a tag football event with Theta Chi we invited prospectives to join.
Disney Theme: First night was DisneyLand/Mickey/Minnie, other nights were other Disney movies. Pref was Cinderella's Castle. We all had plenty of Disney memorabilia to contribute to decorations.
Around the World: Italian Night, other countires/regions. This stressed that PSS was international and you could find PSSs all over, an advantage over local sororities.
We also did a "Through Time" one with 50s, 60's and 80s to show our longevity and timelessness.
We tried to reinforce the theme through our shirts, our Rush nights, our events for the full week. I loved all the great ideas that women came up with to reinforce the themes.

CSU Stanislaus' (Theta Mu) Recruitment is also starting Sept. 15th and lasting until Sept. 19th (woo hoo Bid Day!)
Glitter,
The last two years now our rush dates have been the same! That stinks because I was hoping on going out there to one of your days. (Blair mentioned it at LTS. I really liked her by the way. <--totally random but hey since I dropped her name I figured what the hell)
also a mini hijack:
I have been reading on here that a lot of schools start Rush right when school starts. We start school on the 4th and formal isn't until two weeks later. Anyone's school similar?
Good Luck in Recruitment!!
