O my gosh there is actually a "Six Flags over Memphis" too (among other silly nicknames). It's a huuuge church (like 30,000 members), but I don't know much about it.

Littlebritches is right, some people go there and LOVE LOVE LOVE it and good for them... I know of three families that have had divorces because one of the husbands/wives met another husband/wife at church there and they had affairs. It's crazy. And a lot of business people use it to drum up business and network... they don't really care about what the preacher says or what the message REALLY is- no not every family is like that or every parishoner there, however MANY are. They feel like going to church there gives people a better outlook on them and their business dealings.
It's really sad, but true.

As for this post, it's so off topic, but cash I will say this--you said instead of punishing rich people with welfare taxes...since when was giving money to those who need it (and the yes, the premise is that they need it) a punishment? I say we just have tighter restriction on who gets welfare and how much. Or we cut that money in half and give a portion to shelters and other agencies that have Joblinks for underprivileged people.

I feel exactly the same way......it's like they're in Amway or something.


ETA: And just to remark on your religion thread, if it wasnt for the catholic church I wouldn't be here today. My family would have been murdered by the Spanish if we werent Catholic when they "cleansed" Florida after its brief British control.

That wont solve anything. You're always going ot have people exploiting the system as long as its there to exploit. There is a class of people out there that would rather ripp off the hardworking american than to have to actually get a job like the rest of us and work for a living.

I agree. But that doesnt mean we shouldnt punish them for being that way. They COULD change for the better, don't you think?

You can't change people that don't want to change. Unless THEY are willing to change and do the work them selves, they will continue to be the way they are, and no amount of punishment will change that.

Thats not always true. A few examples from history you might reckonize are Peter The Great-Tsar of Russia, Emperor Constantine later known as Constantine The Great or Augustus Caesar, William the Conqueror and Abraham Lincoln. But I believe my favorite example is of Qin Shi Huangdi-China's 1st emperor who united the 6 kingdoms of China against their wills. The Emperor standardized Chinese writing, bureaucracy, scholarship, law, currency, weights and measures. He expanded the Chinese empire, built a capital in Xian, a system of roads, and massive fortifications and palaces. Qin Shi Huangdi (259-210 B.C.) was a cruel ruler who readily killed or banished those who opposed him or his ideas. He is notorious for burning virtually all the books that remained from previous regimes. He even banned scholarly discussions of the past. The people did not want to change and were against it with a passion. The end result of his harsh actions is now one of the most powerful nations on the planet and in my eyes is the closets thing we have to a 2nd superpower.
