so I finally went to see the movie... and for real for real... IMO... the movie fell flat... the only person that should be nominated for an Oscar is Jamie Foxx... he was fantastic... Eddie and Jennifer should win Golden Globes... Beyonce's eyebrows distracted me throughout the movie, her moves on stage were very Diana Ross-esque especially the whole head, neck and shoulders movement thing and after a while I lost focus...

Jimmy got soul!!! and Stepping to the Bad Side... the best parts...

but... I might be tempted to go see it again...

RE: SWV
Is Coko expecting? I see Taj and Eddie George tied the knot.

LOL!!!! Jimmy got S-O-U-L... SOUL!!!!

Eddie Murphy was hilarious at those parts... the original DreamGirls play was loosely based on the Supremes story, so I have heard many times.
But I think Jennifer Hudson did a bang up job on those songs... I swear I was listening to Jennifer Holliday! And Beyonce's character, Deena, was straight tellin Curtis (Jamie) the deal in that orginal song, good addition to the movie.
I liked the movie... glad I went to see it for my date.

I thought it was just me, but I kept looking at those eyebrows like dang, why are they so colored in?

The movie was ok to me. If it wasn't for Jennifer Hudson, I probably would have left the movie early. There were instances where I felt they should have ended the movie. It was a tad bit long for me. I know it's a musical, but I got to the point where I was saying please dont sing, just talk it out...and then they started singing again. I also went after work with my husband, maybe I should have saved that movie for a weekend when I was well relaxed.

Isn't that the way they wore them back then? I've seen pictures of my mother from the 60s. Her eyebrows were hella thick (from liner), now it's like its the opposite.

ETA: Welcome Back, again, Afrochic!

Did the other members have such thick eyebrows? I don't remember the others having extremely thick eyebrows though. My focus was her thick eyebrows and that purple eye shadow.

They did have thick ones back in the day, thick eyebrows and thick hair. That was glamour.

My mom's eyebrows weren't that thick, but her hair was hella huge.

Hey AKA2D '91, thanks for the welcome. You know I can't stay gone from this place too long.

I think it was just B. Maybe that was to make her stand out. Since she was the "lead actress" she probably had a different make-up artist assigned to her.

My mom's hair? The picture I am looking at has the eyebrows and there is no big hair. It looks like it was recently pressed. She saved the big hair for the 70s (no fro, though). LOL

My mom graduated from high school in 72 and I remember her pictures of her rocking huge afro wigs but I am drawing a blank on her eyebrows. I didn't pay too much to Beyonce's eyebrows so drawing a blank on that. I was more focused on how pale/light she was in the movie especially with darker than normal hair.

LMAO.

When you see her brows, you'll go: . How did I miss THAT?!?!?! LOL

I quietly noticed the eyebrows, my sister noticed her eye color. They were a normal black person "brown", probably her natural color. Then, as we proceeded and she became DEEEEEENA, her lighter eye color was there. You know, the color she tends to wear to now.

LOL

also, the outfits "Deena" wore when she did the photoshoot... they were VERY reminiscent of today's fashion... or maybe I'm a youngster and today's fashion used to be yesterday's... or Im a Beyonce hater... iono...

maybe a combo...?

Anika Noni Rose...visually transformed in the movie for me.. I loved her
Jaime- eh.. his singing was the worst
Eddie- should definitely see some awards this season. He was comical when he wasn't supposed to be.... I Want You Baby was the funniest
Jennifer- the best actress in the whole movie.. big voice, sassy attitude, wonderful
Keith- the surprise of the movie.. he doesn't look like he can sing.. but he did very well
Danny Glover- always terrific
Beyonce- good certainly not award worthy. I'm not a super fan of her voice but I'll give her props for Listen.. she sung that

As much as I loved this movie....This movie shouldn't win Best Picture (but will likely get a few acting nods, best song..etc). The characters and some of their storylines were truly under-developed

Agreed. I really enjoyed the movie, but there was stuff that I just didnt get, and could have used elaboration (Effie being an alchoholic, the whole situation with Jimmy's wife- they had Dawn Lewis on screen for 30 seconds and she didn't talk!).

Overall I wanted more J Hudson and Keith Robinson (yum!) and a better story for Lorelle (going from "get your married hands off" to the sideline chick for 8 years?) would have been nice.
