I don't know much about IP addresses, but I am sure someone here will know the answer:

If I reset my cable connection (unplug and re-plug), won't I have a new IP address?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The computer tries to get the same IP over again usually, but if that IP has been assigned to someone else in the meantime, then you'll get a new one. Dial-up users will almost always get a new IP with each connection.

Finalism is an outgrowth of racism. How can you be a finalist? Don't you know others are suffering?

I have a feeling it might - I tried voting yesterday with that new email (on my laptop, which we'd taken on the trip with us and I used to vote the other times), and then I just tried voting on my mom's computer (same house, same cable modem, maybe same IP address???)

I tried, but I'm hoping there are others out there who'll see Michael's story and shoot him to the front!

The good part is if you use AOL you have the possibility of using several different IP addresses. Everytime you sign on you get a new IP address (but it tends to usually be a rotation of 3-5 addresses) but thats 3-5 chances to vote!

I don't use AOL but I can vote using some of the other desktop PC's I have access to at work!

Doesn't sound like they're going to be able to recalculate the scores until the contest is actually over on Thursday! Not sure if that's good or bad, but hoping that's good!! They're still just taking one vote per IP address and I'm still trying to understand all this IP address stuff, maybe I'll start a new thread...

I just know that when I had AOL we had a small pool of IP addresses that we were assigned when we signed online. Most often it would be one of the same 3-5 IP addresses. Now that I've got broadband its pretty much always the same IP address. I wish I could help more!

They must have changed the system back. We haven't heard back from them this afternoon and just got a few emails from friends saying that it was allowing multiple votes again. This is crazy!!!!

The bad news is that from what it sounded like they will still delete multiple IP address votes after the contest is over. So that means we may not really be in the lead, we have no way of knowing! UGH!!
