It's been as hot as 80 degrees down here lately. Now I understand why Yankees come down here in the winter.

I go to uni and there are hardly any greeks around, and the greeks that are present in the uni are from Cyprus, but I want to meet greeks from the UK as I was born in here.
I have greek cypriot parents and can speak a little greek.

I was sitting in a math tutorial the day that bids came out, totally wound up with excitement.
I started babbling to a little freshman girl who had the misfortune to be sitting next to me. At that time, very few freshman rushed, so I didn't even bring it up. The TA read the roll, and one of the names was the guy I had been stalking the previous year. I was mortified, and told the freshman the whole sordid tale. At one point she loudly blurts out: "so who IS this Albert guy??", and he tapped her on the shoulder and pointed to himself (he had slid in behind us without me seeing). I tried to crawl under my desk and hide.
That afternoon, as the new pledges assembled in the ASA suite, I hear "Hey!!! It's my Math Buddy!!!" and there's the little freshman - one of only 2 in our pledge class.
She told me later that she came VERY close to turning around and leaving when she saw "that insane chick from math class" sitting in the suite when she arrived, but decided to tough it out.
And we're still friends years later.

^^^ My grad school classes were similarly Greek-unpopulated. I was the ONLY Greek in every class I took. When I was teaching (as a GA), however, it was amazing how many students were Greek. It just struck me as odd that even though the undergrad population was heavily Greek, once those students progressed to grad school (at least in my department), Greek life just suddenly vanished.
There are lots of Greeks in my classes now, but only a few have caught on to the fact that I am. In fact, after class one night, a DG came up to me apologizing for having to miss the next week's class, and she said, "I won't be here next week because I have a sorority meeting, and this is one that is a lot more involved than most.... [insert too much info here].... I know it sounds like a lame excuse, but there's really nothing I can do about it." I just smiled and nodded; I couldn't believe she let so much slip!
