I have great news about USC - EVERY chapter took quota!! This is the first time in five or so years that some chapters have taken quota, and the first time I can remember that EVERYONE has matched quota. I am so THRILLED that all of the chapters' hard work paid off.

ZTA received 51 fabulous new members - one of the best pledge classes I've ever seen! I was at Bid Day on the Horseshoe with all of the sororities, and I saw LOTS of smiling faces.

Part of this Panhellenic success may be due to the fact that this year USC used (from what I've been told) a new system that required the sororities with higher return rates to cut more girls early on. The result was fewer women at their pref parties, but less disappointed PNM's - the sororities got the girls they really wanted, and the PNM's had a realistic perspective and a chance to get to know other chapters. Hope that all makes sense.

Anyway, way to go USC! I'll be up at Clemson tomorrow helping with Pref and then I'll fill y'all in on their Bid Day (even if it is ACC!) on Wednesday.

**EDITED TO CLARIFY: Quota at the University of South Carolina was 48.
I actually was the one to make a motion during sorority council for that new system. I'm so glad that things have FINALLY improved. I wish that it wasn't before losing two chapters, but it makes me feel good that something has changed for the better. What it does is rearrange the numbers so that the sororities that normally have high return rates invite less girls back... it makes them think long and hard about the girls that they REALLY want to take, so that girls get cut sooner and can think about more "realistic" choices. Sorry if that's blunt. It's a really good system, and I was a little nervous that it wouldn't work, but apparently it did, at least this year. Hopefully next year it will work just as well once there are 9 sororities again. :-)

And can I say... that picture does not do justice to ZTA's house!!! It is even MORE beautiful inside. Their website might still have pictures, but I recommend going inside it if you ever have the chance. I've never been inside Kappa's or Alpha Chi's, but I've been inside all the rest, and they will make anyone drool. Definitely worth the struggle that these women and men went through to get there!

As far as I know, all the lots are full. We were told there would be a Phase II, however, but I'm not sure if that was just a rumor, because I'm not quite sure where there's land to put it. All of the sororities (including Gamma Phi) now have lots, but a few of the fraternities are still waiting. I can think of 3 off the top of my head, but there may be one or two more that I'm forgetting about. And as far as I know, it's "first come, first serve" as far as who will get the next lot, if one ever opens. But there is TONS of paperwork that has to be done first.

I didn't meet any Gamma Phi representatives but I am super-excited for their colonization. Delta Zeta will be colonizing at Clemson too, so there are lots of new girls going Greek! So excited!
One of my good friends is a Kappa new member at USC and she loves it so far!

Yes it is my understanding that USC was part of the official release figure pilot by NPC. UGA was not part of the "official" release figure pilot and did their own modified version - which could explain why 9/18 matched quota (if this is indeed true)

how does the new system differ

I was wondering how the new system differs from the old system. Can anyone give us a cliff notes version of how the new system works.

You are just TOO SWEET!! Please don't to any major trouble, though on my account, though! I hope to be in South Carolina in February, and I can't think of a better excuse to visit a few houses...

The University of Michigan was a pilot for the new system last year. I don't know if they tweaked at all, but this thread from last year will give you the gist of it:

AnchorAlumna.. Pi Phi pledged 56... I double checked the names on our list...

I threw it into an excel spreedsheet... and for someone who did not use one... all your other numbers were perfect! I am in awwweee if you counted them by hand!

I just thought I would let you know that the land that the Kappa, DZ, and Chi Psi houses are on is Phase II. USC moved lots from beside the Alpha Chi house to make room for the alumni house. From what I understand, they are trying to pull the money together for a new alumni house.

Lambda Chi is supposed to break ground this fall, and I have heard from a couple of house directors that Sig Ep is trying to pull it together for the lot next to Chi Psi. USC revised the map of the Greek Village from what is on this site (as pointed out by another GCer), and has actually designated the space across from the Lambda Chi lot as another lot. Of course, this is a parking lot right now and I think USC would be hard pressed to take it away.

Should the alumni house not materialize and groups want land, I think USC would want to figure out a way to get that land back for any group that wants a lot. I've heard that Sig Ep, Pi Kappa Phi, and Delta Tau Delta are interested in building but haven't had the $$. As soon as they can pull their financing together, I'm sure they will get whatever is available.

The Gamma Phi Beta representatives attended our recruitment last week to observe, and their comments did not indicate that they had a lot. According to Greek Life, a chapter has to be here at least 1 year to apply for a lot and provide a number of statistics about the chapter before getting approved. Suffice it to say that based on this, I don't think Gamma Phi has a lot.

pffffhh....never skim posts before you're fully awake...I was reading this and thought "they don't have a lot of what? That's kind of nasty to say. "

Thanks for the info about the Chi Psi house BrownEyedGirl and CarolinaDG!

The ADPi house is very cool in the way it was designed to take advantage of a corner lot. I wish I had my camera with me when I was there.

Auburn wasn't one of the "pilot" campuses but we used that system this year and it worked b-e-a-utifully.
