I'm so mad I missed the show....I meant to set my VCR to record the documentary, and I forgot to do it last night....I realized I'd forgotten it when there was 6 minutes left in the show. Grrrr.....

Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter, who I consider one of the worst presidents ever, but one of the best-ever in post-presidential work and effort, is regularly mentioned in GA Tech and KA publications that he lived in the KA house or his room mate was a KA during his freshman year at GA Tech.

He spent the rest of his college days at the Naval Academy, becoming a "nookular" engineer.

although Gtown doesn't recognize Greeks, we're still there. Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, and Lambda Pi Chi are all at Gtown.

I guess Bill Clinton was one of those "supposed famous members". When I was a freshman here at GW I was told that Clinton was down with SAE. Ahh, to be a gullible freshman again...

The Phikeia ceremony can be open....the ritual is not included in our ritual book, but in other published material.....my chapter never held it as an open ceremony, but apparently some do.

Hmmm...

An interesting question when you think about it.

To be real nitpicky, in theory, all of our pledge initiations are "open" because pledges (PNM's) are not initiated actives, are they?

So, in reality, all of our pledge ceremonies are being performed for and before non initiated people.

I'd never thought of that.

Dude, Im part philosopher, and all I can say is like, wow, you must have ate shrooms back in the day because that makes less sense than Rudey dating JustAMom. (see how I kept that all about greek chat).

Pledges are people you will initate. The Pledge ceremonies are often times redructions and drastic simpilizations of at least a part or overall theme of the Ritual itself. That is why its important to keep pledge rituals closed to the public. Also, whatever its orgin, the Pledge Ceremony is a statement of trust between the Brothers and the Pledges to their Brotherhood, saying they will be brothers. It is the offical ritualized genisis of the foundation of trust. What is brotherhood without trust? Underwhelming organized chaos.

No.

Not unless the pledges aren't allowed to participate.

Interesting. Thanks for the info, Opie (and Optimist Prime and others). I didn't realize that so many groups had opening pledging (or whatever the correct term may be for a given group) ceremonies.

Ours isn't in our ritual book either. It never was, I don't think, but I still don't think it should be open.

I'm a Theta Chi like OptimistPrime and though our ritual for pledge ceremony isn't private we don't let it be public!

Hell yeah. It is sacred between Brothers and Pledges, future Brothers.
