I don't know, but that part of the dabate had my wife fuming. She really doesn't appreciate the suggestion that she should like/support Palin because she knows what it's like to be the mom of a special needs child.

This was an interesting read about how the "gray vote" is no longer automatically "red" (it profiles some retirees in FL): http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27190283/

I particularly enjoyed the part about Jerry Decker's wife giving him $25 spending money each Friday for the week as part of their 'saving for retirement' plan in their younger days -- and she still does it! I'll be reviewing that idea with the husband this evening... (the day my husband can walk into Home Depot and leave spending less than $13... )

Yeah, I expect this trend to continue as the baby boomers age.
While some of them went kind of Reagan yuppie, I think a big enough block still holds a 1960's political radical self image. (not that they are really radical, but they aren't going to lean Republican necessarily just because they got old.)

Yeah - I'll read it out of curiosity, but if I wanted frothing-at-the-mouth angry political commentary, there are a lot of other places I can get it. I understand that Rolling Stone writes with a certain agenda, and that it's worked for them, but they're kind of the far left print equivilent to Rush Limbaugh in my mind.

It's actually not that angry--their profile of Sarah Palin was far more biting. It also doesn't bring anything to the table that we hadn't heard before--the cheating, the temper tantrums, the "c-word" incident. I was surprised--I thought it would have been mich more haterrific.

Just read through it - it isn't as bad as I thought. As Munchkin said, it just seems to collect all of the things we'd heard previously into one article. I do like the "We're not trying to say we know what happened during McCain's POW experience, but here's what happened during McCain's POW experience."

Again, they have their audience, and this is something that will get them a bunch of readers. They don't like McCain, they don't want him elected, and this is part of their contribution to that end.

I think they might be done now-but McCain just had a rally at my alma mater. I also work there, so it was hell trying to make it in on time this morning (I failed miserably). Add one more reason to the "con" list! LOL!

So McCain may have gotten Lieberman's support, but Obama got Colin Powell. All told, I think Colin Powell is a more helpful endorsement.

True, although I don't understand why this is much of a surprise. Powell has had a slow falling out with the GOP since before he left the Bush administration. It doesn't surprise me that he would endorse the candidate running against the GOP.

All in all it's a low risk endorsement for him. Obama apparently has a huge advantage at this point, and I don't think Powell was going to be trying for a position in any GOP administration.

It will be helpful to Obama, but I'm not exactly shocked by it.

Haha...I wouldn't go that far. But, when people ask that "Who would you want to have lunch with," question, he's on the list. I think it would be incredibly interesting to have an "off the record" talk with him about his time in politics and the armed forces.
