Soror: Congrats! I just moved to a two bedroom apartment right around the corner (literally) from TSU. There are a lot of duplexes in the area. I stayed in a four-plex during law school and I'm staying a duplex right now. Feel free to PM me.

I recommend identifying an important connection to the place where you want to go. Employers respect this and believe that it will keep you in an area. For example, do you have family there? Other ties? You would want to point this out early on in your cover letter noting all of your qualifications - yes, it's that important to employers. I recommend explaining the tie that you have in the cover letter and reiterating somehow during the interview. It costs employers alot of money to train someone that leaves so they want some assurance that you're likely to stay in the area. For some reason, it's almost as if they see themselves as interchangeable with other companies so it's not enough to just say that you really want to work for their company. YOu have to have more...geographically so think about it. I'm sure that you have some tie to the place where you want to move.

Hey Sorors,
I will be moving to HOUSTON in the next month or so. I will be staying with a friend at first, but where should I move once I get my own place? I want to be near as many professional black folks as possible. I'd prefer to live as close to the city as possible too. Do any restaurants in Houston have black Friday like they do in Dallas? Thanks a bunch

the AA community - where? we're around, but then again we're not. its hard to explain. my educated AA circle are NPHC, and were not as deep as some other cities.
plus raising kids here, while i am a product of it, would not recommend it, not even in the "suburbs" of the outer boroughs.
so, where does a Noo Yawker relocate when she knows nothing comes close, even through all its flaws? I know there's some sacrifices, but i leave NY for more than 2-3 days and i start to get the shakes.

Sorors, I am moving to Houston this summer. I've set the date as the last weekend in June. I'm looking for a job there, but I'm not having much luck. I recently received a BS in Health Services Administration, & I will be attending Texas Southern University in the fall working towards a MBA w/ concentration in Health Services Adminstration. I've been checking the openings at hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, & the Greensheet. The "I got the hook up" thread made me think of this one. Do any sorors in the Houston area have any suggestions or know of any openings? If so, please pm me!
Just a little additional info:
*I was involved in other organizations & held executive offices
*Graduated w/ above a B average
*recently completed an internship in the Marketing & Foundation department of a local hospital
There's more including my goals, attributes, & a cover letter & resume, but I wanted to keep it brief.
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond!

Ok. I see alot of Houston people in this thread. Anyone have a realtor that could assist me in in finding a nice place? I am not sure of the one I'm working with.

Cosign ... I'm one of those relocators that u mentioned. Ever since I was a little girl, when I used to come to visit my uncle and aunty in Brooklyn, I always said I wanted to live here ... and now I am. In the end ,it has made me a tougher/stronger/independant (in a good way) person, and Ibesides I just love the fashion and the overall swag. Though Im from a smaller urban setting .. I feel like NYC is my new home :]
