This thread is interesting. As for the intersex issue, my husband is a pediatric endocrinology fellow at Johns Hopkins where he works with Dr. Claude Migeon, an expert in "ambiguous genitalia." My husband was quite shocked to become "that kind of doctor" but says that the diseases that cause ambiguous genitalia are fascinating. The experts still recommend that most of these patients be assigned the female gender, and despite all of the popular media displaying story after story of bad outcomes, the truth is that the VAST majority of these people go on to live fulfilled, happy lives as women whether or not they are genetically male. There is a
slightly higher rate of homosexuality and transgender issues in these assigned females than in the general population, but these cases are heard from more than the 98% who are fine. In the end, reconstructing male genitalia is nearly impossible with very poor surgical outcomes. That is why they assign female gender most frequently. This is a very, very complicated medical condition, but the medical community does its best to give these patients a normal life.
As for "fruit flies," I'm a proud "fruit fly" since I'm close friends with three gay men who I consider family.
As for the Kinsey scale, I'm a Kinsey 0. Sorry, ladies, you don't do it for me at all!
