Im not sure if this has been posted already, but this is a huge databank to help relatives and friends link up with missing or unaccounted for people.

This is about to get real ugly. According to this Wash. Post story, the Bush administration asked Louisiana's Gov. Blanco to allow for the federalization of the evacuation process the Friday before Katrina hit (Monday). Of course, other fed officials have said local evacuation was never their responsibility so who do you believe at this point.

Still the apparent delay in the federal response, in comparison to hurricanes Ivan and Andrew, et al. is suspect

I don't know Tony. Sounds like they're covering their tracks. And if they did ask, I don't think the Mayor would have gone off on a tangent the way he did. He sounded like someone that has gone thru every possible avenue to get help, but couldn't. Maybe there's a gap in communication between the Mayor and the Governor....

I agree, though. I think after all of this is said & done - it will get ugly - but kept quiet. Dubya's probably already thinking of subtle ways to get revenge (look at Sadaam).

Hmmmm......wanna place a bet on how long it will take for Kanye West to get audited, or have some strange fact uncovered???

On another note - when will she ever learn?

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...m/katrina_dc_7

...Most of Katrina's victims were black and poor, and some black leaders have said the federal government would have moved much more quickly if rich, white people were suffering.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice rejected the claim on a tour of Mobile, Alabama. "Nobody, especially the president, would have left people unattended on the basis of race."

But it looked different from the disaster zone.

I'm sure you're right, Tickled, but before too long there will be serious questions (probably quietly originating in DC) about what evacuation procedures NO/Louisiana previously had in place. (Lou Dobbs was hot on this line of questioning the other night on CNN.)

Also on Meet the Press Sunday, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former RNC National chairman, was saying how much better and more targeted the federal response had been in his state, alluding, at least IMO, that Louisiana may not have had all their stuff together. Not being there, I'll defer to any Mississipians on the truth/falsity of Barbour's comments but if you're looking for political cover, this may have been the start of it.

...sad to say but it may just be best to discount veracity by at least 20% anytime you see a politician's lips moving. especially if blame is being assessed.

I know for a fact that former Louisiana Gov. Mike Foster asked the Bush administration for assistance ($$$) in building a bigger and better levee for N.O. But was told that it wasn't a major concern. Clearly the administration doesn't value history or N.O. The same thing happened in 1927. It is not our fault that Bienville and Iberville built the city the way it is. How can you say a city that brings in billons of $$$ or is rich in history/culture is not important enough to build a bigger levee. We can spend a S---- load of money to help other countries out but when it comes to the improvement of my home state its not a major concern? As far as the Gov. of LA not doing her part oh trust me she did. What the White House doesn't catch CNN so he couldn't see what was going on...oh wait I forgot he was in Waco raising money for Iraq (it was all over the news here in Houston). Let me shut up before I catch a treason charge.

Please!! I live above the Mason-Dixon line and I am pissed right along with you. I am not a sensitive person at all but I have sat in front of my t.v. and cried out of frustration. I can truly say that once again, as a black person, I am embarrassed to be an American.

I will purchase my "GB don't care about Black People T-Shirt" and the "We want your blood for oil" t-shirt...Oh the ignorance and arrogance from Bush, Rumsfield, Cheney and the rest of them is crazy. And I swear, if Donald Rumsfield opens his mouth, I will scream.......

So it looks like we both are going to be in trouble.

GOD IS GOOD!

I FOUND MY FAMILY!!!

Through the power of prayer and the limited cell phone connections that we were able to establish, I found most of my family!!! My dad is still missing, but hopefully, he will contact me soon. I'm not really tripping about him because I know that he can survive and may just be pulling his typical routine of not calling, so I'm not stressed. I've found everyone else.

Let me just say that my aunt and two cousins have been sleeping outside since TUESDAY at the Convention Center. We just got in from picking them up in San Antonio (an 8 hour drive to B.R., so I am BEAT), so I can't go into detail right now. Let me just say that it was a HORRIBLE experience for them... Wait until I have time to tell the stories I have heard so far. Bush and everyone else that is responsible are going straight to HELL for what all those people went through out there.

THANK YOU to EVERYONE that was praying for me and my family!!! PRAYER WORKS!!!!!

OMG - Oprah just went in the dome! At first they weren't going to let her in. She wouldn't back down, and finally, she had to wear a mask. She said the floor was full of urine. And ya'll, the place was pitch DARK!

Anyone that survived that is truly strong!

ETA: "going to". Also - I cried like a baby when that man grabbed that guys neck when he said he would take the dog and give it safe refuge.
