As for non-NPHC orgs being more open with their secret... I think you're a little off the mark - there are different levels of secrecy and knowledge, what someone sees on the outside is not an indication of the secrets they learn when they have taken the oaths... there are many things that can be discussed with those on the outside - but many more that are known only to those within.

it's not difficult to lose you evidently.
how is the poster not excersizing discretion? her organizations secrets aren't out. it's not her fault that a third party put another orgs info out there.

in no way does her discretion have ANYTHING to do with whatever someone else wants to do with their lack thereof.

i assume you missed this part.
of course there's different levels of secrecy, people on this site just are more open with their info.

Really? The LCA forum is right up there in the number of posts - and yet I still haven't seen anything secret come out...

I think you're missing the point. Starang wasnt referring to secrets, cause I hope that NO ONE in a greek org is randomly giving out secrets. But there are other things that NPHC are more secretive in...such was when you are joining the org ("pledging"). Generally it is common knowledge to those in the NPHC community that you don't tell anyone what organization your are joining. You let it be a surprise until your "coming out show" when you are introduced to the campus and community. Its been my personal experience that NPC/IFC orgs don't have that culture, and PNMs are quick to tell people what they are joining.

Well he used the term esoteric - which implies secret or select information... so I assumed that meant the discussion of secrets...

Good gracious.
People who are curious, read the links that have been posted in this thread.

Linguistic interest, also for accuracy (I'm a journalism major...I'd hate to misidentify a person's position (especially such an important one). Even when I interview someone I know well I have to ask them to clairfy their position/spelling f their name/spelling of their title. Also, other orgs give their national president a different name to avoid confusion with the names of regional directors or chapter presidents. Sorry to offend.

it's not her fault that SOMEONE ELSE put another org's secrets on the web. i don't think she was being all nosy and asking for it. the information was already PROVIDED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC BY A THIRD PARTY. so i'm lost as to where you're not getting it.

and what the hell does she knowing about someone else's org have to do with you know about hers? they're not the same thing.
|
I wasnt saying she put it out there. My point was that she didnt have to read it. If shes concernd about 'prying eyes' so to speak, I just find it REALLY hypocritical to then go and read another groups rit. Outta respect thats some shady stuff I'd never do. If SGR's, Sigma Chi's or ATO's rit fell into my lap, I'd do what I coudl to contact somebody from one of those orgs and return the info. Cause their rit's and whats in 'em are none of my concern. I would assume that someone who seemed to be saying as much would actually beleieve the same thing. Just 'cause its out there dont mean she had to read it. Its a respect thing, so to speak.
Also, I NEVER SAID I wanted to know jack about her org. I dont care. Hell, I never even met a SGR. (but I appreciate you jumping to her defense tho). I'm saying that if other peoples business really is other peoples business (as she was preaching) then she shoullda acted it and not read that other groups biznass.

Case closed, then.
There is no overarching principle involved, so don't waste your time PRETENDING to debate the "principalities of the matter."

Absolutely there is. That was the point of my post in the first place. If she's rasing a stink about people wanting to know about her org, she had no business reading the innermost secrets of another org. Its that simple.

Absolutely it is that simple. (I am only referencing the post by sigma diva) I am saying its exactly about principle. I was just responding to your post where you said there was no overarching principle involved. There is and the principle here is respect. If you dont want anyone up in your biznass, in turn, you stay outta other peoples biznass.
Even you have said as much in other threads. You obviously dont want others up in DST business, and you said something to the effect of being only all about Delta (not being concernd with what other groups are doing). Thats fine, hell thats completely respectable. Thats the point I am trying to illustrate here. If thats what you believe (as sigmadiva seemed to say) than stick to it.

I never said that.
Either way, your argument is becoming extremely irrelevant to the general point. Just accept the fact that the young lady won't discuss in this thread and be done with it.
