I was always taller than folks, I didn't become semi-average until high school. I was the 2nd tallest, tied with my friend Angela. The tallest girl had to have been 5'10" in ELEMENTARY school, because I was 5'6"-5'7" then, and I had to look up at her a little.
I'd been pretty tall my whole life, but slowed down considerably in high school.
Used to be pretty coveted by middle school coaches, etc. in basketball, but when I wasn't tall enough to be an inside player anymore (center, forward etc.), I wasn't so coveted. Once I lost the height thing, it was exclusively baseball for me.
5'6" and my friends are taller than me. I'm also the shortest female in my family. Must have gotten the shortness from my Puerto Rican side, and I don't know anybody on that side.
I was not blessed with height. Although, I'm told we live longer (vertically challenged folks like myself) and we are also able to have something great called a "Napoleon Complex"
