Actually I've also seen some girls wear the colony pin AND the chapter letters guard...it starts to look cluttered after a while!

LOL I don't think SAIs know what cluttered means. Most of us proudly wear as many guards as we can! At Convention this summer, I noticed the national officers had just a MASS of guards, between their chapter, awards, and all the offices they've held. I personally like it that way. I only have one guard right now (my chapter), but I'm fixing to get two more, for the offices I've held.

a few fun aoii facts

we do have a colony pin

we do not have badge guards nor are we permitted to attach anything to our badge so that means no dangles - so we have charm bracelets and the like available to us if we want fun charms.

we have a Ruby "A" Badge - Many chapters have established the tradition of presenting to a member a badge with the Alpha completely set with rubies as recognition of special services, at the chapter's selection. It may be given outright to an individual or may be a travelling award. It is neat i think that each chapter can give it for a reason they see fit. My chapter gives it for most outstanding new member, some give it for highest gpa, etc... it's neat at convention to meet another ruby a and find out why she got it.

Our Founders' Day is December 8, or a date as near to it as is practical, is Founders' Day. Although Alpha Omicron Pi was founded on January 2, 1897, this date usually falls during school holidays. December 8 was chosen because it was Stella George Stern Perry's birthday.

I also like our convention Banquet Song - At the close of the Rose Banquet at Convention, it is a custom to sing the Epsilon Chapter Song. It may be sung once as a solo, or by a group, and then the entire Convention sings it together while standing hand-in-hand.

it is unique that AOII chapters choose their chapter name, as long as it is not the name of another chapter the colony picks the name they want, usually with some signifance. For example our chapter at UF was Gamma Omicron, named for a lady Mrs Good who helped start the chapter - the G for Gamma comes from the G of Good - and for the Omicron chapter who helped with the foundation as well. Then the USF chapter chose Gamma Theta to thank "Gamma" Omicron they chose gamma ant Theta because teh school is in "T"ampa!! pretty cool huh!! One of newer chapter chose Mu Lambda in honor of one of Past International Presidents who had just passed away her name was Mary Louise Roller - thus the Mu from Mary and Lambda from Louise!!

lastly i think one of our open rituals is very neat, it is a candlighting ritual that is open to the public, where in founding order the name of each chapter is said by either the chapter president or an alum and their sub motto is said in english and greek if the chapter has a greek version as well. All the chapters are represented even closed chapters.

Those are some really cool facts about AOII; I'm jealous Phi Mu doesn't have some of the same traditions!

To return to the original question, LAMBDA CHI ALPHA was the FIRST fraternity to condemn hazing and the FIRST to abolish pledgeship. We have had Associate Members since the early '70s. I was one of the first AMs.

Not exciting enough? How's this...Lambda Chi's Official vegetable is the potato!!! Now this is juicy stuff, huh?

ok, that was my random thought of the day.

There's this little bar in my hometown that serves delicious turtle soup, but I haven't been able to bring myself to eat it since I joined Delta Zeta.

And not just any potatoe.... the Maine potatoe

Yep Lambda Chi Alpha condemned hazing in 1928 and began revoking charters shortly there-after for hazing offenses.
