"Berta". Wow. Thats, um.. Interesting.
Do you remember what his actual name was? I'm at the end of my 2nd year as an initiated DX, but there may be a chance I know the dude.

he was prolly b4 your time, Kevin Lorenz. I think he came here in 1999 or 2000. I wasn't really a friend of his or anything, but I hung around the house a lot back in those days

Yes, most definately before my time. If he left Alberta in the year that I came to the U, I didn't meet him.

However the name is familiar, so I have heard of him... Considering we were colonized in '95, I don't have too many alum to remember.

my ex-husband couldn't skate - said he had 'weak ankles' - I think that should have been a clue to pick up upon, huh?

(note: I taught figure skating and power skating for years)

you're damn right, Rob - gotta know the blade work ...

I haven't skated in like 18 years. Does that count as "not knowing", since I've probably forgotten?

ETA: the word "years" so my post would make sense!

Hmmm... weak ankles

As for teaching people to skate - I too held that lovely honour, though only in my capacity as a student ambassador at Carleton University - basically I was the contact person for international and exhange students (in my case Europe); in the 3 years I was there I believe I taught close to 40 people how to skate - of course having the Rideau Canal right there helped
