So with ADPi previously having been established at SMU would that give them priority over another organization?

Some sororities, when they leave, get some kind of written agreement that they have first dibs when a new sorority is wanted. I don't know if ADPi had one.

Thank you carnation. I was always under the impression that chapters that had closed would have a priority if they wished to return, but that doesn't seem to be the case in every situation.

I don't believe cruelty and daring necessarily has anything to do with their leaving. They simply saw the handwriting on the wall. According to old greekchat NPC Chapters and Campuses listings (by irishpipes) for SMU, Gamma Phi Beta has had more than a few low-number formal recruitment runs during the past decade. It's likely they knew for awhile the campus was bringing in a new group, making it doubly hard for any struggling group to continue a numbers rebound.

Yes, it does seem unfair to GPhiB to bring on another organization, either while they are open or just as they are closing. And trust me, I wish that this chapter (and other low recruiting chapters) would get a group of young ladies to join en masse and revitalize the chapter; but, you cannot force anyone to join a chapter they just refuse to. So, in order to keep numbers down, it becomes necessary to bring on another organization, even with one that is (often severely) below total and not making quota.
I'm sure that the FSL admins did not wish for Gamma Phi Beta to close, but had to make a decision about the growth and health of the local NPC org. It was certainly not a decision taken lightly.

I remember when NPC was thinking about expanding in 2015 but they ended up not going through with it.
Not to steer it too far off, but IFC actually is in the final stages of choosing a new fraternity. The 4 potential fraternities that could be selected are Delta Sigma Phi, Kappa Alpha Order, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Theta Chi.

Gamma Phi, for the past five years, has just continued downward, and it gets to a point where it's just not viable to continue anymore. As for the expansion, SMU clearly knows that they have women interested in joining, but they aren't interested in joining Gamma Phi.
The same thing happened to DPhiE at Georgia Southern. We closed one term, and Chi Omega came on the next. It happens more often than you think. It's not out of disrespect for the smaller organization. The vote to expand at Georgia Southern was made when we were still there. We voted against it most likely, but everyone else was for expansion probably.
Sad to say, but no one chapter struggling should hold a system back from growing.

There are a lot of toxic campus cultures where chapters seemingly enjoy beating down on the "bottom rung" chapter to the point that they can't get out from underneath the poor reputation no matter how undeserved it is or how hard they try. They get it from everyone and, worst of all, often from the chapters that are only one or two steps above the "bottom". No worries...GPhi can close and then the next "worst" chapter can be on the bottom. Congrats.

Yes, but I would say it is more a whole campus culture, not exclusively Greek. I have heard disparaging remarks made against chapters by many non-Greeks. And once the campus jumps on the anti-ABC sorority bandwagon, it is so difficult for the sorority to survive, as well as return to campus after closing.

It looks like Alpha Gamma Delta at University of Ontario- Institute of Technology has closed - last instagram post is from 2021 and it is not listed on the AGD website.

The Kappa Alpha Psi chapter at Penn State has been suspended for four years. Suspension is due to RMF and hazing allegations.
