Oh, agreed, completely! It's kind of an anthem at IU. (where he actually wrote the song!) I have memories of playing that on the jukebox at Kilroy's, and everyone in the bar singing along.

Plus Rich is a really nice guy too!

"Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits

Band: Dire Straits
Album: Making Movies (their best)
Song: Romeo and Juliet (side 1, track 2)

A lovestruck Romeo sings the streets a serenade
Laying everybody low, with a love song that he made
Finds a streetlight, steps out of the shade
Says something like, "you and me babe how about it?"

Juliet says, "hey it's Romeo you nearly gave me a heart attack"
He's underneath the window, she's singing, "hey la my boyfriend's back
You shouldn't come around here singing up at people like that
Anyway what you gonna do about it?"

"Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start
And I bet, that you exploded into my heart
And I forget, i forget, the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong Juliet?"

Come up on different streets, they both were streets of shame
Both dirty, both mean, yes, and the dream was just the same
"And I dreamed your dream for you, and now your dream is real
How can you look at me as if i was just another one of your deals?"

When you can fall for chains of silver
You can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers, and the promises they hold
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin, yeah
Now you just say, "oh Romeo, yeah, you know, I used to have a scene with him"

"Juliet, when we made love you used to cry
You said, "I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die"
There's a place for us, you know the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?"

"I can't do the talk, like the talk on the TV
And I can't do a love song, like the way it's meant to be
I can't do everything, but I'd do anything for you
I can't do anything except be in love with you"

"And all I do is miss you, and the way we used to be
All I do is keep the beat, and bad company
Now all I do is kiss you, through the bars of a rhyme
Juliet I'd do the stars with you any time"

"Juliet when we made love, you used to cry
You said, "I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die"
There's a place for us, you know the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?"

A lovestruck Romeo, sings the streets a serenade
Laying everybody low, with a lovesong that he made
Finds a streetlight, steps out of the shade
Says something like, "you and me babe how about it?"

"i never wanna f***ing see you agaaaaain!
you've always been a b*tch,
since i can't remember when.
you irritate my brain,
and you're driving me insane...
no i never wanna f***ing see you again
why'd ya have to be such a b*tch?"

the tune is so catchy, too....like, upbeat almost.....makes it perfect!

lol....sister havana, i'm glad someone has heard it and been inspired! i never heard it until my friend grant played it for me a few yrs ago....he has all this music i've never heard. anyway, it's a lil anthem for us, too, when break-ups happen. always a good pick-me-up! even changed the words around to fit a more girlie atmosphere.

Lots of good breakup songs, but based on what I can think of off the top of my head, Coldplay wins hands down!

Dire Straits - "Romeo and Juliet"
R.E.M. - "Everybody Hurts"
Coldplay - "In My Place," "Trouble," "The Scientist," and MOST OF ALL - "A Warning Sign"

I love Flogging Molly!

"What made Milwaukee famous has made a fool out of me..."

I'm listening to a bunch of mp3s from my freshman year to cheer me up about studying for midterms.
