I must admit, I've never been to another chapter where we werent welcomed. Hell at convention we get treated like rockstars. However, I do have to say that we are often reluctant about other chapters coming to visit. If it is some guys from like Ole Miss, then no problem, we'll have a great time. However, if it is Ga Tech or Oswego State, we duck and cover. The problem is that these guys want us to take them to the bar, and a lot of our guys would rather not go into a local bar with these kids.

Oh My, To True at times isnt it?

When Brothers come a visitan, they want the suds to flow! Well, when they trash Your House and act fools, they are on the outs and is passed along the chain! Rightly so isnt it?

They maybe soon learn, Hey, These Guys are My Brothers and I should respect them for who and what they do!

Respect is a big word that many forget.

What do you do when there is a National Convention, shut yoursef in your room so you do not have to meet those heathen brothers or sisters?
Well, I don't think it's necessary to shut oneself in your room, but we certainly spend no time with them. Our only brothers that we can stand are at Ole Miss, LSU, Auburn and Georgia and other southern schools. The majority of the brothers I have met outside of the SEC and Texas-Big 12 have been worthless. Honestly, I've never seen so many irreverent people then when I go to convention. Other fraternities on campus have lamented the same feelings when they go to convention.

Yeah, I mean, in the south, I think when you're away from your school you have loyalty with other chapters on your planet. Lets say my chapter and a rival fraternity on our campus were somewhere up north...we'd probably end up hanging around with the other Auburn guys as opposed to our chapter at the northern school. Its just different. In other parts of the country, they really feel like they are brothers with anyone who wears their letters. While I would help our brothers out, etc., if they don't share our background or ideals, I really don't have any special desire to hang out with them. We actually got a call from a regional director one time because we were at another school, and weren't hanging out with our chapter there. Some of the brothers from our fraternity had seen us hanging out at the KA house there, and got pissed and told the director about it. Its just awkward when we're at convention and some guys come up and are like, hey we're having a keg party at ______, and we're like, nah, us ole miss and UGA are gonna go to the bar...

Exactly. I got the "honor" of going to a convention. The chapters everywhere else think that just because we share the same ritual makes us brothers/friends. I'll give them respect for going greek however, they do not deserve or are worth my friendship. We only hang out with the other good southern chapters. I don't know, I guess I just hate getting their gel all over my palm when I shake their hand, I'm not sure.

For sure, brothers in Omega. Delta is for a bunch of losers.

Anyways, I'm in neither KA nor SAE which means I see alot more irreverent jokes for brothers than they do. I'm pretty sure the Sigma Chi's at my school would never even speak to you. In fact, I know they refuse to associate themselves with anybody other than SEC and Big 12 - Texas Chapters.

Thumbs down

Hm, sounds like some people have their heads either in the sand or up their----!

There really is a big world and country beyond the SEC States. So why dont You try it?

I am afraid if Your Brothers at Your convention found out about your feelings, it would be a lonely meeting for you.

If you really do go to college and really are in a Greek Organization, you sure sound idiotic.

I am sure if a Southerner went to a Chapter in the North, they would be cordually welcomed and vice versa.

If some feel so strongly about the "outer" Chapters, stay in YOUR little world and suffer.

I've no problem with anyone from outside the south east, and if it is a National Convention or if I happen to run into someone from a another chapter, hell I'll be as nice as can be. It's just that we don't have much in common. And were I surrounded by a bunch of kids who have their hair all spiked up decked out in Hollister screaming "Oh my God, I'm so fratty!", I'd have to kill myself, simply because I'd lose all hope for the future.

Lets be honest, most fraternity ritual is fairly broad. Sure they are all different, but I haven't gained any ideals or beliefs solely as being a part of my fraternity. Thus, the bonds claimed by northern chapters to us don't really mean all that much. Sure, we're nice to them, we'll help them if we can, but the simple fact that we went through the same initiation doesn't overcome the other, and frankly more important differences.

Well, that should about say it all for what You feel about your ritual.

I am glad ours has more meaning than some seem to don't and feel ours brings Brothers much closer to each other.

Not knowing about other GLOs Ritual, I think LXA has one of teh very best and more meaning full with respect to and for our Brotherhood.

If some of You "Southern Gentlemen" dont feel the same, then why did you join your Fraternity? Just to be good buds to your local dudes.

I guess I and many of My Brothers from all over have a different perspective than you and others.

Its not that I disagree with my ritual, its that I already believed in everything it stood for before I joined my fraternity. They are pretty broad and vague ideals, and they are pretty common in a southern upbringing. Thus, when I go somewhere else, there isn't much of a bond. Even more so, they interpret our ideals differently. So while we went through the same initiation, these people often believe differently from me, dress and act differently, value different things, and are socially quite different. People often talk about fraternities as if the bond of brotherhood is more than that of simple friendship. While those guys are my fraternity brothers, I don't think of them in that we went through the same initiation or have the same ritual, but instead I remember the time we got drunk and went to Baton Rouge, ridiculous nights at the bar, etc. They're my friends first, they just also happen to be fraternity brothers.

Some of these attitudes are really sad.
