I really don't think that it was necessary that you had to say the lines are extremely small. It does not matter that the lines are small it is Quality and not Quantity. Therefore, you are saying that Zeta and Sigma Gamma Rho are not prestigious organizations because we do not have 50 million people attending our socials. I am just wondering why you had to bring that up about Zeta and SGRhos? Do not hate on the small guys. I could say some other things but I do not find it necessary to go there. I really hope that the things that were stated were not to be disrespectful but just did not know that it would be insulting. Thank you.

Therefore it is not susprising that their lines are larger and Zeta and Sgrho lines are extremely small even at a HBC. I do however agree with you on the cap issue, but that is not an easy task when so many qualified women are interested in these two prestigious organizations, particulary at HBC. Black Schools will always have larger lines then do White Schools for obivious reasons. There were over 300 girls that attended the rush for the line of 128 that came back to the yard after a 4 year suspension just "fyi". The final decision of how many are taken is at the discretion of the governing body and they take into consideration many factors (including money i hate to say). Deltas and AKA's at Howard always have huge lines because they always have over a hundred girls attending their interest meetings (not every sorority has that many interested women) and it is a predominantly black university vs a white university where blacks are not huge in attendance. It is possible however to bond as a larger line that is the responsibility of each line sister. These sororities have a greater demand for membership then do others so they must make it happen, no EXCUSES. I think all things are relative to the type of organization one is interested in. Some sororities will never have a need to limit their intake of members while others will always have a long line of interested ladies just waiting for the chance to gain membership. I'm glad so many women are interested in my organization i don't see that as a problem.

GreekChat = Members-Only? Should we close the doors on GreekChat?

Just an FYI...At Howard, where I pledged and was the Dean of a line of 19, the Zetas have purposely kept their lines small...It's never been a lack of interest. If you take a look at the early yearbooks of Howard you will see, for MANY years, the numbers issue was about the same. The bottom line is we have a personal interest in the ladies we bring in. Our tactics with respect to membership are very consistent with what we want from a International perspective.

Therefore, we do not bring in MASS quantity.
We would rather not deal with the drama plagued by aka or delta that they time and time again face in their headquarters adding on additional women and infighting. It's not a diss...but simply not an issue,we would like to deal with in the name of Sisterhood. And further, I hate to say it, but I would be embarrassed to wear the number 125 on my back. My friend(who's organization I will not mention) forgot her linesister's name. OUCH! I love her to death...but eww, YOUR LINESISTER'S NAME? No thanks. That's not cool.

And please don't get me wrong, I know she is a die-hard member (and on that line of 128) and WORKS her butt off. I am proud of her and love her to death!

I must also say this issue of numbers is VERY regional in nature. For example, in NY...Brooklyn...Long Island U anyone will tell you the Sigma Gamma Rho's CONSISTANTLY outnumber all NPHC 4 organizations. Does it matter? No. Does it mean there is less interest in the other organizations? Not necessarily. However, what it might indicate is the priority is different chapter to chapter with respect to whether bonding or numbers is important.

In closing, I know women will bond on line...while in school even. But what are the life long effects. We say this is a LIFE LONG COMMITTMENT. Does one really stay in touch with 60 linesisters?

I THINK that you were trying really hard not to be disrespectful but you are. One of my closet and dearest friends is a member of AKA and I really don't think that she will speak in the disrespectful tone that you have. ALso, a fiend of mine for almost 20 years is a member of Delta Sigma Theta and I do not think that she would be this disrespectful either.

Question

It's cool that "newer" members et. al. to this forum want to add their 01 cents to this discussion, therefore, decided to "bring it to the top"...

I think that we need to remember, MOST OF THESE POSTS WERE MADE A YEAR AGO!

unless individuals have had an epiphany between then and now...i think it would be safe to ASSume that the views are still valid...my views do not change from year to year...nor does my attitude...and it seems to be more of an issue of attitude than merely a view...just my $19.77 worth (that .01 cent does not even come close to the worth of my or anyone elses comments on this board...even that can be contrued as disrespect when a person really thinks about it...

peace and blessings...

We could get numbers if we wanted to, but that's not important to us. Who cares if you have large number of brothers, how many of those brothers have u actually sat down and talked to? Just my 2 cents.

...and on the flip side, how many of them stay active???

We have a chapter here and as one of my very good friends pledged, I SAW what they went through. They really started to get into abusing people- not pledging, but pure hazing.

Three years later, my friend rarely if ever speaks to his brothers and is not active. THe chapter here has all but died out because of how they treated prospectives. So I have to wonder sometimes.

Get your AZZ off your BACK!

There are many GREEKS who would DIFFER with your statement ABOVE and OTHER statements you have made AROUND here at GC, especially the ones not directed to GDI! That is, if you haven't already gotten the numerous hints!

Anyway, you have totally misunderstood my post, yet I will not take the time to clarify.

so far aka2d...you are the only one disagreeing...are you the honorary spokesperson for ALL greeks...i meant no disrespect...only giving my opinion...and before you take it there..."when you're runnin' round bragin' 'bout those letters you wear...don't forget who helped put YOU there..." just some food for thought before you go jumpin' on MY back...

peace and blessings...

oh, p.s. numerous hints about what? i know you can't be talking about what i think you are talking about because if you are talking about what i think you are talking about...like dmx say...if you think you know...then i don't think you know...

how very mature of you...i will not go there...but my opinion on the TOPIC of this thread still stands regardless of your cyber-tantrum...

peace and blessings...

p.s. when i get my what? do you mean when i am granted membership in the organization that i choose to pursue membership in that happens to use greek letters to identify itself...if that is what you meant than cool...when i am granted membership in an organization that identifies itself with greek letters...then perhaps i will have a clearer view of certain things...

VctoriasSecrt- your assessment of the ZPBS family is incorrect. Yes, we are constitutionally bound brother and sister organiZations, however, we do operate as seperate entities. I could type some long drawn out explaination of our history together, but honestly, I just don't feel like it. I will say this though, ZPBS has a rich past, rich present, and we will certainly have a rich future together.

As far as this numbers thing goes, I don't think of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in terms of numbers and I never will. (I certainly hope that none of my sister-sorors think of their organiZation in terms of numbers either). I think of her in terms of Scholarship, Service,Sisterly Love, and Finerwomanhood.
When I think of the good work that has already been done, and the challenges and work ahead, it brings a smile to my face and warmth to my soul.

your views don't change from year to year? interesting. don't you learn ANYTHING in the course of a year or the course of a day? see, people who LEARN do change their view points based on their learning and experiences. this is called MENTAL GROWTH. looking at your posts and taking this comment into consideration, i can say that i'm not surprised that you say your views don't change.
