Parts of Florida are Southern, in my opinion. My family encompasses both.

My mom's side of the family has lived in the same town in Florida since the 1860's, and before that, were in South Carolina & Georgia.

My dad's family moved here in the 1970's from good old New Jersey. My grandparents were born on Long Island.


My mom's side has thick southern accents, and my dad's side has thick New York/ New Jersey accents... it's hilarious when the two sides get together

i would like to qualify your statement to read SouthEAST Florida. luckily, southwest florida is a whole different animal.
