The first time I ever heard "baby ________" was on this site. I probably would have also thought it to be strange if this was said where I went to school.
I honestly have not heard it used a lot (if at all) amongst ASTs. I guess "baby anchors" doesn't make much sense. And each of our chapters adops a local mascot, and saying:
baby Tasmanian devils...
baby green M&Ms...
baby Alvin and the Chipmunks (get it? Alvin, Simon, Theodore)
.. just doesn't sound right.

So THAT'S what "A-S-T" stands for!! Your secret is out!
Now, were the names more formal like "Alvinius," "Simonikis" and "Theodorius"?
J/K. I thought it was cute.

The ONLY person who gets away with calling me Baby anything is my Great 5 Grand Big who still calls me and all her Lil sisters Baby Pi. It's her thing, it's not wide spread. It's a term of endearment so I let her get away with it. Even my husband calling me Baby sounds weird.

I know, I just cringe when my husband does this. Or worse, when he calls me Babe. We've been married a really long time and I guess it's too late to bring it up now, haha.
I don't remember being called a baby when I was a pledge, but then again it was a while ago. I hear it used a lot now to address new members.

Baby __________
Nobody puts Baby in the corner.
It had to be said.
Now I'm missing Patrick Swayze again.

This made me smile. I just watched that movie again a few weeks ago and I'm still dancing.

I'm glad fraternities don't do that. I would have smacked somebody if they called me a baby owl.

I'll come clean...while it wasn't a chapter thing by any means, my friends and I definitely called our new members "Baby Phis".

Once, I was helping a friend shop for a COB event and she asked me to order the writing on the cake because she was too embarrassed to ask the woman at the counter to write "Congratulations Baby Foxes" on it. Its a local mascot for those of you wondering who has foxes.
Our AMC joked about calling our new AMs baby knights for a few weeks, only in private, but we were all a little worried that he would actually say it in front of people!

We just call our new members, new members. For some reason, I don't think being called a baby lyre would sit right.

We refer to them as "babies", but usually to other people or in casual conversation. During announcements, chapter, meetings, etc., they are "new members". Being called a baby in reference to being in the newest pledge class didn't bother me, but if people use that word just to describe me as being younger than them, it is super annoying.

Yep, we always say "delta babies" when referring to our new sisters. I've always liked it. In fact, most of my pledge class is a little sad we won't be the most recent babies after recruitment next month. I've never heard anyone in my chapter express dislike for it.

We use baby deltas. We say new members but we also use the baby delta name.
