You are allowed to rush as long as you were not previously an initiated member of any of the 26 national panhellenic sororities. So it's okay to rush if you were once in a local, since locals are not part of national panhellenic council.

Well i went and got my bid and I didn't get a bid to Aquarius which is Alpha Chi Omega, I got one to Libra which is Chi Omega. I'm not really sure how I feel about it yet. To be honest I've been crying since I found out cuz I'm really dissapointed so I'm not sure if I'm going tonight or not.

My thoughts are with you! I know that you will make the decision that is best for you...only you know what that is.
I will add, however, that one of my best friend's had put another chapter first on her card, but got her second choice and got a bid to Sigma. She made the decision through tears to see how things went...attended bid day...began the new member process...and was initiated. She went on to be very active in college (an officer a few years, several chairs, etc.) and is now our alum chapter president.
(Edited for spelling/grammar...hope I got them all!)

Wow. I don't know what to say. It's not possible for me to put myself in your shoes completely, but on the other hand...knowing what I know...having had 25+ years of fantastic Sisterhood experiences -- I hope you'll give it a chance.

First off, Kit Kat, let me say that even though it's my sisterhood that you are not exactly thrilled to be with, I really am sorry you did not get into your first choice. (((Kit Kat)))
Now my advice - and this is the SAME advice I give all women regardless of the org involved -
PLEASE go tonight! Please give pledging some time (at least a month) and see how you feel then! Since you were willing to put Chi O on your pref card, there must be something inside you that says maybe it will work out. You could have SIPd but you didn't, so I personally think that's your sub-consious talking to ya!
I also have a story of a chapter sister who got Chi O as her second choice and was less than thrilled at bid day. She stuck it out and became extrememly involved, held leadership positions and was a huge geek for all things Chi O.
Remember that you didn't meet every sister during recruitment. The girl I mentioned above never met me while she was going through. We ended up being the best of friends. Also, you need to see what the girls in the new member class are like. You didn't really get to meet any of them during recruitment, and they may make all the difference.
So good luck and give it a shot.
On a secondary note about prefs - and this is a general point/question to everyone...
I think just about every house tells every PNM at their pref party that they can really see a girl fitting in there. That's the point of prefs. You only invite to prefs women you really want as part of your sisterhood. So I wouldn't be turned off that they told everyone that - it's true!
I personally would think it's really weird to have a new woman be my main rusher on pref night. But Kit Kat's story is not the first we've heard like this. To people who have done this on the chapter side, what's the rationale for it? Just wondering.

May I suggest something? Assuming that most of the other GLOs won't be participating in COR, give it a week or two weeks - a definite but short period of time. See how you like it. If you don't, then cancel your membership and concentrate on becoming active yet scholastically desirable for next year.
Just like most decisions, giving it some time may change how you feel about it. The sole exception would be if you absolutely cannot stand more than one of the other New Members - that could make your life miserable in years to come!

I just want to let everyone know that after talking to me mother and thinking things over I will be going to bid day tonight. I'm trying to think of all the things I did like about Chi Omega and not the things I didn't like so hopefully things will work out but I'm still very unsure and kind of sad. It is also kind of hard for me to talk to my cousin right now, since she was an alpha chi at this school. I know it will be hard for me to see all the girls running to alpha chi tonight and knowing they were chosen over me. I also want to thank KLPDaisy, your message was really helpful, thanks for taking the time to write to me. I'll try to update you guys later today about how things are going.

Congratulations on Chi Omega. Do give pledgeship a try and give it 100%! Come to the socials, make the new friends, wear the letters and after a month, see if you've come to feel differently. If you give it a fair chance, I think you'll come to see in time with the friendships and memories you'll make: this sorority is number one in your heart!

Congrats on deciding to go ahead and try it. I know a girl who had her heart set on her first choice, but ended up getting a bid from her second. She bawled for about 10 minutes, and insisted that she was NOT going to go to Bid Night and join this sorority. Her Rho Chi convinced her to just try it for a month and if she didn't like it, she could depledge and rush next year.
So, she reluctantly walked out to XY on Bid Night. She later told me that she was near tears when she was in line waiting to go out, but something happened at the moment she went to them that really changed her opinion of them. She saw how HAPPY those women were to see her and how they jumped up and down when they saw her coming out. And since then, she has been SUPER XY and has served in almost every position possible.
So go to your new sisters, attend all the new member events and really give a 100% try, you might suprise yourself!

Just think of it this way, you'll probably spend more time with them on bid day than you have all week combined. It is a great opportunity to meet many people you have not met before, and your other pledge sisters.

I'm sorry you didn't get your first choice, but I'm happy that your going to give Chi O a try.
The school that I was intiated at, it was very rare to see people not get there first choice...and if they didn't, they usually didn't stick it out. Well, there was a girl (before me) went through rush, got invited back to us and ABC on pref night, and ranked us second. She got a bid to us, and decided to make the best of it...she went on to become chapter president while I was there, and was a great sister. I really hope the same happens with you!
*major hugs*

Definitely give it a chance! XO is such a great sisterhood.
The rush process can be so confusing, and if you have a favorite from the get-go you might not have given the other groups a chance just because your heart was set on AXO.
Listen to what all of the posters are saying - give it a chance, at least a couple of weeks. You'll learn so much more about the sisters and get a much better feel for the group than you got during rush.
Good luck!
