It's "controversial" because people are f*ckwits.

Seriously, there was nothing in that poem (at least the sections quoted in that article) that anyone who received even a moderately decent high school education could argue with. Maybe the terms she used were a little on the harsh side, but that's what poetry is about -- using the most powerful language to make the largest impact on your audience. What I find much, much more "controversial" than the poem itself is the fact that the school thought they had to apologize for it. If anything, THAT'S what I think is out of line.

Pick any race-related thread here on GC, including this one; you'll find some specifics soon enough.

No. I asked you to cite instances, not send me on a scavenger hunt to support your claim. You made the claim, so support it.

Step up YOUR game, so you can do the same.
That in part is why we as blacks aren't making progress; we're too busy complaining and then we get the nerve to cop an attitude when no one listens to us or takes us seriously. Nobody likes a complainer. So go ahead and complain. That's the easy part. It's much harder to just get to work and "shovel the gravel".

And you best believe my game is stepped up in part because I am NOT complaining.

Let's get together sometime to chat in person. I'll bring the cheese, you bring the whine.

This is a discussion board, not a college class.

You know it's out there, but you want to stick your head in the sand and conveniently ignore it. And even if I did bring it, you would have something to complain about that as well just for the sake of such.

I refuse to fall into one of your traps where at the end of the day, my efforts would be a waste of time for the sake of pleasing you.

Those of you who are on this board are mostly college educated or in process. YOU MADE YOUR OPPERTUNITY. I'm sure many of you came from families that didn't live in the best neighborhood and didn't get to go to the best schools and didn't have the money to go to college....but you still found a way to make it happen. Why do you who make it happen, let those who won't make it happen for themselves make excuses? - And I have heard those words come out of more then one black person's mouth (but because I'm white - I'm sure that makes me racist because I said it)
Good points, AlphaFrog. Exceptional! Keep it up!

I can complain, if I want. But, I don't stop at complaining. I actually write the people who make laws, and I call their offices. I will never agree with sitting idly by, when there is injustice. Maybe your being a weird little outcast makes you cool with injustice. I'm not cool with it, and I will go down fighting it.

My ancestors didn't die for me to just be content with my lot in life. My Founders didn't march, for me to be content with my lot in life. My teachers didn't teach, my preachers didn't preach, and my parents didn't raise me to be content with my lot in life. Maybe your parents raised you to be content with the status quo, because they didn't know any better. And that's fine. But don't try to stop me from doing what I do.

This is a discussion board. But you made some serious claims, and you can't back them up. There is no proof, because you are just spouting your unfounded opinions.

I don't know it's out there, which is why I asked for proof. If I was ignoring it, I wouldn't ask for the proof. Quit trying to predict my actions.

I don't set traps. What you are seeing is what you get. If the proof is there, then bring it. If it's not, then just say that you have no proof. It's that simple.

I nominate RainMan for that keyboard courage award!

Yes i know thats not this thread but this is such a prime example i feel i wouldnt be doing my job if i didnt bring light to this right on the spot. I dont think you could stand face to face with anyone and truly give the comments you are right now.

Your ignorance and obvious lack of respect for my race makes me so angry i cant put it into words. Rather than show my enormous 4 letter word combination insults, i'll leave you with something my grandmother told me when i first found out who and what racists are....

Pay them no mind. Speak your mind, but pay them no mind. A closed mouth dont get fed. You take every opportunity to let them know what they did was wrong otherwise they will think they are right and continue to do it. One they day will learn... but it may just be too late for them.

*sigh*

I can see that this is one of those discussions where we aren't seeking to come to an understanding, but to see who can yell the loudest.

B_Q, your objectives in discussing your points are totally different from mine. Thus, we will never come to a mutual agreement.

So with that, I'll just say "Bye, Boom_Quack."

Ohio Centaur, you go to OSU, you live in the same town as I do (Columbus). What's the problem?

Give me a call, we'll have lunch and talk about it.

Holla!
