We do a skit at one of the formal recruitment parties and it definitely helps keep the PNMs entertained... it's also a great way to have some laughs while practicing/writing it !
Moose girl how is it your chapter doesn't sing during pref ? it's part of a ritual that is supposed to be done as it's written and the songs are included in the ceremony... I have come to love our songs even if they are "corny" and no one should have the excuse that they dont' know them... they should be taught during the new member period.

I know!! That pissed me off when i found out...the only song they know is liebestraum so that's all they sing.
Turnover rate has been very high the past few years, so older sisters aren't around to teach newer sisters...and the ones that are around have forgotten the songs, or never really knew them themselves(ie, we only have one 3rd yr PhiSig, noone who's been in longer)....
last year i went to Div con with them and we all started off by singing, each chapter did a song....only 3 from my chapter stood up to sing a song, and i was the only one who made it through the entire thing!!
Like i said, i made a tape for them, but they've lost it....they don't realize how much songs are a part of us...and how fun they can be!! but the archon does want to teach the songs, she just needs help teaching them...

Our Chapter is sooo bad with songs!!! I think the only 2 most of us know is Liebestraum and Linger, its really ridiculous. The problem is we are a fairly young chapter (just celebrated 6 years at UMass Dartmouth this past November) and just about all of the founders graduated 2 years into it...so in 1999. I am the oldest sister in Theta Sigma right now, and I was never taught any songs besides those two. We would absolutely love to learn more songs but its hard with just the words and not the tune. I wish we had a CD or somethin that we could buy from CO because I know a lot of chapters would totally buy it!!

I am presently a member of the oldest class in our sorority. We came in last year. There are only 3 left who came in 1999. However, we know the songs and cheers.
During rush, we did cheers as they came in. We danced like crazy. . .and we were referred to as 'cheerleaders on steroids'. It's almost ridiculous how much of a high you can get from rush.
However, I do think that you need to teach them the songs. Hmm, maybe take a road trip to another chapter to learn the songs.

I would love to have a tape of all the songs that you can send us. At our Vision refresher today, Joanne Barrick or RCD said that we should all know about 20 songs. I think I maybe know between 5 and 10 comfortably.

It would be awesome to have a tape! Casper, I didn't know that Babs was trying to bring songs back in...I could help teach them (I'm a music major) if she needs help. I know that we are planning on having one at our info party this semester, but I don't think anyone knows which one, or even if they know any. I don't think it's all that corny as long as it's done with enthusiasm. Besides, if you count me, Ariel, and one of our Alum, there are three musicians in our chapter....we should be able to sing!

Recruitment Ideas
[SIZE=3]I am hoping to be elected as my chapter's MRC. As a newly founded chapter, we have never held a fall recruitment. [B][SIZE=4][FONT=arial]Does anyone have any activity ideas for a fall recruitment? Are there any Phi Sig traditions that are done with recruitment? Anyone have any ideas on getting ladies interested, signed up, and present at these activities? (We have no Panhel)
[COLOR=darkblue]Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!

you have no panhell? you're so lucky!! i would love to be at your school.
First of all, you are your own advertising. . .wear your letters everywhere. . .have them on everything(stickers, liscense plates, etc).
If you have a sports team, show up at their games with your letters. Get your own little section of cheering. Make signs for the team.
This is just to do walking PR.
During Freshman Week or orientation tours, set up a table with all of your stuff. Have a contact sheet where girls can write down their names and phone numbers. Make sure you have tons of cute pics with you and your sisters just out and about. Or you could ask the Campus Activities for a list of women that go to school and you can send out a Phi Sig mailer with sorority contact information and maybe events that your sorority will be having.
The first week of school. . .put up flyers with activities everywhere. If you have a fraternity on campus, you guys could host a free pizza Greek Life informational deal. Do a back to school, end of summer luau. Have tons of partner games like (partner limbo) or something cheesy like that. Sponsor a local band to come out and play while you guys grill out on campus. Set up tents for people to congregate under.
THE IMPORTANT THING
Make sure that there's always a Phi Sig being seen. Get more involved with campus. Go to events that aren't sponsered by your group. Plan a game night with members from other organizations. Chalk the sidewalks. Plan to have lunch where most of the students hang out.
Other recruitment events:
Darin's Dancin Groove Night
get the tape. have the school dance team come and teach you some moves.
Food Night
always works with broke college students
Sports Event Outing
Be creative. You can do anything. You're the only sorority on campus. And that makes all of the difference.

Recruitment Night
Hey Phi Sigs...
My sorority is preparing for recruitment already, and its not till september, but thats cool.
I am however chairing a day, which means I am in charge of a day for the PNB's to be comming to during recruitment, and of course I will want my room to be the best. I have the country night theme, and I really want to have fun doing this since it is my first time.
I am writing all of you to ask for any suggestions, for anything, songs decorations, anything, the room is huge so I know I will need a lot.....
thanks for you help..
Bryn (phisigxxx)

PS-THE WORST PART OF RECRUITMENT IS MY BIG SIS IS A RHO GAMMA, SO I CANT EVEN TALK TO HER

Country Night
Hi!! First off I just wanted to say, way to start early on recruitment; thats great.
Last Fall my chapter did a western theme night called: Wild Wild Phi Sigs. It was a lot of fun (I was MRC and one of the daychairs for that night, but I swear I'm not being bias when I say that)
I don't how much time you have or how recruitment works at your school but this was one of our 45 min parties... So what we did was like a dance off type deal.
We broke up everyone into teams with the captains being a Phi Sig with a Dance background and gave them all a country song to make up a short dance too. Then each group "performs" to all of us. It is an easy way to break a lot of PNM into smaller groups.
For Decorations we used real bundles of hay! We had the bundles form the "stage" (it was very messy to clean up later, but very very cute) our table cloths were red and white checkered(you know the country type ones) our streamers and etc. were all done in red and white. We had up white lights too to add to the whole "performance" feel of the night.
Each Sister also whore a western type shirt with jeans. We also each had our own Cowboy hat that we had persoanlized ourselves. (mine said my name and "Phi Sig is #1") For name tags we had metal sheriff sytle badges with our names on them. (they were very cute I ordered them through ABC (a party supply catalog; very cheap with lots of cute stuff)
For food we kept it simple with an all finger food deal. We had Chips and Salsa, a veggie tray, and the big hit of the night: pigs in a blanket.
The songs we sang, I can't really remember all of them ( I could look it up if you really want) I do know that we sang "Thunderation". We also later sang "Linger" when the PNM's were leaving. (we do that everynight: with Linger)
I hope maybe you can get some ideas off what we did. PM me if you want more info or other ideas. (I love planning parties if you couldn't already tell)
Good Luck with your planning! I wish your chapter the best.
LITP

Recruitment Tables
we have a panhell table
and its so hard not to push phi sig in everyone's face
last night, i was like 'well, we did this and that. . .'
and the other sorority was like 'well, we didn't do a lot'
and i just stood there feeling bad because this year
everyone knows that PHI SIG was #1 in everything
does anyone know how we're supposed to include everyone in a panhellic spirit if we're the best and most involved sorority on campus????

i know how you feel..on my campus our phi sig chapter is the biggest and most active, when formal recruitment comes around its really hard not to push phi sig too much b/c we already get the highest numbers. I just try to avoid mentioning us as much as possible and focus on the other sororities. Our actions speak much louder than our words and its more than obvious where my loyalties lie. By saying good things about all the other chapters we can avoid too many hurt feelings and not get accused of trying to make the others look bad.

That was good advice Phisig4life.
My adivce: try to Keep things as netural as possible. If you are going to mention something about Phi Sig be sure you can say something about xyz too. If you can't think of anything about the other org., try talking about sororities in general; for example the sisterhood offered, philanthropies, formals, networking, etc. (we talk about going national instead of local. Not to knock the locals they are hella cool, but we'd rather people rush us )
Its a really hard thing to do, I know. My chapter is in the same situation too, but as long as your equal everything will be ok.
By mentioning both, it looks better in the eyes of the pnm. We make sure as Phi Sig, all sisters talk about xyz too. xyz never talks about us and then after recruitment you hear how much better we came across on first impressions not only to new phi sigs but to women going through recruitment in general.
Besides pnms are smart they will go where their heart is, and all during the parties you can talk phi sig up to help them in their decision.
Diokete Hupsala! Its hard being number 1 but all phi sigs gotta do it!

however, most of our groups around here say they do philanthropy work but they really don't. they just say it to get girls more interested. it's always a tug between us and anothher sorority.
