It doesn't mean you deserve it. Deserve is a different concept.

Its like using folic acid to prevent neural tube defects, if you refuse to use them and your child gets a preventable neural tube defect you kind of asked for it.

Again, you don't deserve it, just asked for it.

Sigh.

And when you have a womb and a vagina, we'll listen to your take on whether a woman is "asking" for it or not.

I think it's the harsh-sounding words "asking for it" that is bugging people. I kinda think you might have a point in a way..... I definatley wouldn't say anyone is asking for" anything though.....

But maybe if you have these warnings and suggestions and ignore them.... Maybe you just shouldn't be too surprised if they do happen.

Not all doctors suggest DHA. I'm on my second pregnancy, and as many doctors as I've seen, NONE of them have recommended it to me. Quite honestly, I had to google DHA to see what it was...other than something found in breastmilk! The first time around, I was blessed to only have a very slight case of the 'Baby Blues'...of course...there were many other contributing factors.

I don't think I need to remind everyone, but for the naive, EVERY woman is different. What works for one, might not work for the other. I was not given the option of an epidural, my labor went too quickly. Is that my fault? Did I ask for that? Until you push something the size of a watermelon, out a whole the size of an orange, keep your inane comments to yourself. Please, James, you sound as dumb as Cruise does. There is obviously more to PPD than you could possibly comprehend.

To everyone else...sorry for my rudeness, but I'm about five weeks away from delivery, and my hormones are nuts! OH! I'll just go take some DHA...or diet and exercise...or something!

AnonAlumna, I echo your statements.

Also James, keep in mind that not all women can take DHA. I have Celiacs and so most vitamins and supplements are out for me as they are for most Celiacs since glutens are usually used as binders. (Some brands may be gluten free)

DHA is found in a lot of foods, and it so happens, those foods are mostly foods I am allergic to.

So, given that, do I 'deserve' or am I 'asking for" PPD if I ever have a baby just because my body cannot tolerate certain chemicals and preservatives? HELL NO.

Women who choose not to take DHA are not doing it solely out of naievete.

Here's a very interesting page on "The Birth of a Scientologist"

http://www.ilsehruby.at/Thetanbirth.html

Among other things, it says that after birth, the baby should be left alone, without any human contact, for about a day. Is that so it can develop into an antisocial moron who will one day promote Scientology to others?

It would just mean that Katie was going through PDD with an extremely unsupportive man in her life who probably wouldn't allow her to use (or would make her feel extremely bad about using) drugs, therapy, or anything else.

And James, nobody is "asking for it." While taking supplements may reduce the chance of PPD, it certainly doesn't eliminate it. Furthermore, with Tom Cruise's anti-drug stance, who knows if he'd even be okay with Katie taking them (although maybe he considers them a "vitamin" in which case she's okay -- haha).

As for Tom's declining popularity, I think it dropped slightly after the way he treated Nicole in the wake of their divorce (many women who had previously loved Cruise were sympathetic to her -- her subsequent popularity was partially due to her talent and good movie choices, but also to the fact that many women empathised with her). Cruise's true popularity nosedive came after the Oprah appearance, and continued to sink at every major public incident after that. Cruise's handlers could NOT keep him out of the spotlight and it was usually for something unsympathetic (i.e., the PPD debacle). If Cruise had been smarter, he would have laid low for a while after Oprah and his popularity would probably have recovered. Instead, he went around doing a number of stupid things, appearing EVERYwhere in public with Katie insisting how rad their relationship was, and then the paparazzi started researching his involvement in Scientology and came up with lots of weird stories, which was the final nail in the coffin. It doesn't help that, I believe, Cruise's publicist is his sister (?) who is also a Scientologist, so clearly she was not going to be the one to reign him in.
Points well taken. Although I will add - and I have witnesses - that I thought he was as gay as a picnic basket as early as Risky Business!!

Frankly, I think the whole pregnancy thing is/was planned by the Scientologists to try to bolster Tom's image. Too bad it's just making him looking sillier than ever.

IT'S AN IMMACULATE CONCEPTION, PEEPS!

It didn't seem like it according to your first post, but you're welcome.

I agree with AnonAlumna. My doctor never told me a thing about DHA, and the first time I ever saw anything about it was on a label of formula about 8 months after giving birth.

I'm really thankful that my husband is so open-minded. He was completely supportive of my birth plan (which included an epidural and a couple of other pain relievers), and never questioned a single decision I made during pregnancy, labor, delivery, or post-delivery. I feel very sorry for Katie Holmes; somehow I just don't think Tom is going to keep his big fat trap shut for the next nine months.
