Stellar Awards filled with memorable performances, celebrity surprises
HOUSTON -- The stars shined brightly at the "19th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards," held for the first time in it's 19-year history, in Houston. This year's show surprised the live audience with unforgettable, star-studded appearances and performances.
The celebration honored the legendary Shirley Caesar with the esteemed James Cleveland Award, recognizing her innovative efforts in traditional Gospel music.
Musical legend Patti LaBelle presented the award and Yolanda Adams sang a hymn medley tribute. Gospel superstar Kirk Franklin was inducted into the Stellar Gospel Music Hall of Fame with a special tribute from Natalie Wilson & S.O.P. The legendary Smokey Robinson presented the award.
Lee Williams & the Spiritual QC's and their CD "Right On Time: Live in Memphis" won five Stellar Awards including Group/Duo of the Year. The Byron Cage CD project won five golden-flamed statues, including Male Vocalist of the Year, CD of The Year (Song of the Year and Producer of The Year goes to Kurt Carr) for "The Presence of the Lord is Here." Vickie Winans won four Stellar Awards including Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.
"The Prince of Praise" Byron Cage opened the show with a soul-stirring performance of "The Presence of the Lord is Here" and Tonex featuring Sheila E. (on percussion) gave an electrifying musical presentation of "Todos Juntos" in English and Spanish. Mary Mary, Deitrick Haddon, Cece Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Darius Brooks & SDM, Karen Clark Sheard and Hezekiah Walker also gave rousing performances.
This one-of-a-kind televised Gospel awards show was attended by several celebrities including musical legends The O'Jays, actress Victoria Rowell, Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child, neo-soul artist Musiq, and "American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard. The Post Stellar Awards Celebration featured a surprise performance by Houston-native Beyonce', along with The O'Jays and Angie Stone who performed a selection from the "Fighting Temptations" movie soundtrack.
The "19th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards" show will air in syndication from *Jan. 24 through Feb. 22. Below is a list of dates for select markets, check local listings for airdates in other cities.

I bought Marvin Sapp's new cd--Diary of a Psalmist. It's AWESOME! Please pick it up guys.
Youthful Praise's sophomore album is also out. Their hit was AWESOME GOD. Pick it up.

yes girl, i love marvin's new album. i just finished listening to "you are God alone"....i love this cd.
i had no idea youthful praise second cd was coming out. i love their first one. did you see them on bobby jones a few weeks ago?
some other new ones i like are:
1. karen clark sheard - "the heavens are telling"
2. bishop paul morton - "let it rain"

Gurl, yeah I saw them on Bobby Jones! I recorded it and I listen to it at least four times a week! I love that CD. Their cd dropped last Tuesday. Let me know if you like it!
I love Karen's cd too. Isn't she a phenomenal vocalist or what?! Did you see her on Bobby Jones? She put it down, but I just don't understand what she had on that day!!!

Dang, let me catch up! Umm, yeah, Isaak and Lowell did sing with John. I loved when they would harmonize with John. Anyway...I thought a lot of people were sleep on Men of Standard, but it's good to know they're not!
Tony...where you been?! That 3rd album has been out for a while, but none of them are as good as the first one! I'm still singing "Feeling Like Winter" and "Yeah." Those were my jams.
Who else are y'all listening to? I haven't bought anything new in a minute.
