Howard U. alum in the house!
YOU KNOW YOU ARE OLD SCHOOL HU IF YOU REMEMBER (some have been altered to avoid duplication):

1) that this is the tenth anniversary of the protest and were down from the beginning.
2) you remember jumping double-dutch on the yard and then a brawl ensued with a couple of the football players
3) the punchout after the football games
4) fighting in meridian hill or sutton
5) Reggie wit' the red jetta (washable silk suits and matching bally's)
6) that the hilltop never came out on time and when it did it was full of errors
7) when the police beat us up at the howard/morgan basketball game
8) playing spades, bid whist and pool in the game room
9) that the college of arts & sciences useta be called liberal arts; that there used to be a school of human ecology and that there WERE 18 schools and colleges
10) rayon print shirts, the bum toes, africa medallions, high top fades with lines in 'em, eyebrows with lines in 'em, "groove is in the heart" "rebel without a pause" & "i like"
11) the first hip-hop conference and were down from the beginning
12) nia force kids drillin' on the yard
13) the spring picnic where somebody threw a bottle and set it off
14) the clubhouse, the days inn & that other little club by meridian
15) when the street in front of the a building was not one-way
16) there used to be a hot dog truck at the front gate
17) the old heads who blew up BEFORE they blew up
18) when the library was open for 24 hours during finals...and you went and studied little, if at all OR you fell asleep
19) when the university was closed during finals because of the snow
20) when the homecoming fashion show was MUST SEE TV
21) all the friends you had in school-and they're STILL your DOGS (or the ones you lost touch with and have become reacquainted with with the advent of e-mail)
22) Food fights every night in the Cafe
23) The WAR ZONE
24) The Howard Inn
25) The Thunder Machine
26) TLC (the little store that was across the street from MacDonalds)
27) hangin' out in front of the towers without beef from HU security.
28) the undergrad library before it had cubicles.
29) bootleg Howard gear.
30) house parties where "DJ Bernard" played a half hour Shabba Ranks medley.
31) getting your laundry done for free when the machines took quarters.
32) when freshmen and sophomores could live off campus.
33) when 40oz.'s were not considered ghetto.
34) playing "Wisconsin Sleeper" with freshman girls.
35) the group "SHAI" thought they were the sh*t.
36) that kid who got high and jumped off of Drew Hall and lived!
37) when the cops beat up Andrew Young's (former mayor of Atlanta)son.
38) you could attend class until midterms without being validated.
39) when the Sutton shuttle was your free ride down town.
40) there was no coffee bar in the A building.
41) seeing De La Soul and Diggable Planets chillin' on campus every other week.
42) stealing salt and pepper shakers from MacDonlads.
43) when student ID #s were six digits.
44) When homecoming games were played in Greene Stadium
45) Tawanna Brawly used to go to HU.....and mad brothas were sweatin' her
46) The School of Business had the finest....yet stuck up.....women
out of any school....... not much has changed :
47) Most folks hung around the game room......in Blackburn....playing spades and Street Fighters I, II, III, and IV
48) Drew Hall was became respectable and females wanted to actually hang out there and get their......you figure it out.
49) Sutton and Eton Halls had the finest upper classmen women
50) Various things overflowing, flooding, or crawling around the various floors of Meridian
51) Sitting in the windows of the Quad and yelling "WE SEE YOU" everytime the alarm to the back door of Bethune went off because someone didn't make it out before curfew....
52) fighthing the rats in the courtyard of the Quad because you didn't have a laundry room in your bldg...(oh sorry got a little personal)
53) A certain HU bball player's Doo Doo Brown incident
54) The shuttle buses blowing up....
55) The freedom shuttle
56) The WUST (before it became the 9:30 Club)
57) The Spray painted red, black & green map of Africa in front of Douglas Hall
58) the BLACK squirrels (TELL me y'all didn't think that was the STRANGEST
thing went y'all came to school)
59) $5 Dominos pizza man...
60) the first sign of Spring was when all the little freshman girls came out on the
> yard half naked
61) Que's and Alpha's stepping on the yard on Friday at noon
62) Sticky Fingaz parties on Bates street, and Club Cache
63) parties at the Roxy on Friday or Saturday nights.
64) The Block Boys
65) When Puff Daddy was just Puff that kid with the Jetta
66) Jettas
67) The Presidents Picnick & Valley Party
68) No one really came to school until after Labor Day @ VA Beach
69) The Mens Basket Ball team was Da Bomb (undefeated in regular season but lost MEAC Torny to NC A&T) and the NCAA jerked us.
70) Chris Washington dancing at Basketball games
71) Black Bart Simpson shirts
72) Ras Baraka doing the WOP on the yard
73) HU 7-11 & Churches Chicken up by Drew Hall
74) The year they just thru up the TOWERS
75) Dr. Twitty failing her own daughter
76) Bomb threats at the School of B
77) Waiting in line 2 days to register (liberal arts students)
78) Homecoming on the yard BEFORE they moved it to RFK
79) The little hotdog stand in front of the School of B
80) Club Undergrad AKA the library during finals
81) Hanging out in front of the quad all night long
82) The Touchdown Club
83) If you remember wearing Cross Colours.
84). If you attended the Battle of the Dorms stepshow where Drew Hall won and upperclass women sweating them.
85). If you a remember calling niggas that hung around the quad too much Captain Quad and girls who you saw in Drew Hall too much Drew Hall Queens/Rats.
86). If you remember the greatest dj in the history of HU, DJ Paul Howard.
87). If you remember Quigleys, getting dressed up to go to The Ritz on Sundays, catching the Shuttle Bus to the Mirage on a Friday when admission was free, and most importantly getting your freak on at the Basement.
88). If you remember when Wilson's was Roy Rogers
89). If you remember going to the Mo' Money jam at the Wust.
90). If you remember going to the Ice Cream Social and King's Dominion with the Campus Pals.
91). If you remember Powermove
92) If you remember when Wonder Plaza was the Wonder Bread Factory and still making BREAD....
93) If you remember when that store in the Wonder Bread Factory sold bread, twinkies, cup cakes, etc. that were going to expire the next day for 25cents.
94 If you remember the liquor store across from the Texaco that would cash your HU checks for free if u bought some liqour
95 if You remember when Carl Payne (aka CockRoach from Cosby show aka Cole on Martin) went to Howard and got thrown in the fountain in front of Blackburn during a spring picnic
96 If you had an account at the Bank on Georgia Ave (front of Burr)
BEFORE it became Signet or whatever it is today - - United National (aka United Nigga)
97 If you ever used an old line printer to validate yourself or your friends. (hint this was b4 stickers and barcodes)
98 If you remember when Grrove Phi Groove was actually dope(If there ever was such a time)
99 If you remember when the administration and Bd. Of Trustees were all republicans
100 When All Howard sports teams wore Blue and Yellow (what was that all about?)
101 If You went to any of these clubs. Club Chicago, The Black Hole,or the Mirage b4 it was called the Mirage.
102 If you ever went to a Garage party at Sutton.
103) The cafeteria before it was all-u-can eat and being pissed off that the athletes could get all of the food they wanted.
104) The Howard Plaza Towers the first year it opened was the Bomb...and you were a freshman that year and all your friends from the Quad would come over to your place and sleep because they didn't have air conditioning.
105) Guys would make "dates" with girls to see the Cosby Show and Different World on Thursday nights....and you cried on the episode when Whitley was getting married and Dwayne Wayne broke up the wedding
106) Howard was always the LAST school to close when all of D.C. closed down for a snow emergency.
107) Joe Mahone was already in his 7th year as a senior when you were a freshman and still hadn't graduated yet when you did as a senior.
108) Girls wore FUR coats at Homecoming
109) Late night in front of The Towers you'd always see all the lights off in people's rooms, but "Let's Chill" and "Kissing You Is All I Want To Do" would be blasting out of people's windows
110) Chuck & Billy's - accross the street from the School of B was slammin' on Friday's after school.

As far as I know Mr. Jackson did not write the motto, but if he had that would be a testiment of how well known and prominent GRAMBLING STATE UNIVERSITY really is.

Let's be kind and gentle......You know that we joke each others school but we really love them all acquiring the invaluable education that HBCUs offer is like that of no other!!!!!!!!!
