As far as sororities are concerned, we are superior and many sweethearts do care. This is why sweethearts have seen sweetheartdom as a stepping stone and many disassociate when they finally become a sorority member.

To be fair, there are sorority members who feel threatened by the existence of auxilliaries. But it isn't on a membership competition basis but rather about competing over male attention. Then they realize that most of these men will pay attention to a drag queen with an ass pad. No need to get butt hurt if a sweetheart is kicking it with fraternities. If the frats (not Iota) are dumb enough to still claim and "make" auxilliaries that's on them. We can all respect each other as long as no one acts wild with it.

That sounds well and good but many campuses don't have auxilliaries or the auxilliaries that they have don't do anything but roll their necks saying "nah nah nah boo boo...we got the frat" and copy sororities. At the post-undergraduate level, auxilliaries are relatively invisible.

EXACTLY. It's at the alumnae level that you really start running your org and being about the business of your org. I can't even remember the last time anyone in my grad chapter even spoke about auxillaries. We are too busy handling business. And to "brownsugardivah" yes, we do pay more dues, because it takes money to run your OWN organization. Nothing compares to having your own so if you are fine assisting the Iotas, then more power to you but I like running things. You look at undergrads and think that's all there is but you have no idea obviously just how big this thing is and how much you can grow, be empowered, and develop as a leader beyond undergrad membership. You obviously have no idea because if you did you would never compare an auxillary to a sorority and you would never think that the fraternities (including the Iotas) see you and your group as their equals in Greekdom. Maybe one day you'll get the opportunity to become a sorority member so you can run your OWN organization and I'm sure your ideas will change.

Well as I stated those are the views that people have. I am a sweetheart in a graduate level so I really dont get into what sororities have to say about auxiliaries. Im not in their organization so their validation means nothing to me. If certain members of orgs want to walk around with superior attitudes but arent doing any work in their organization or community. Im not here to judge nobody what they do or dont do is their business. But keep that stuff away from me...dont come to me like your better than me because they have 2 more letters than me but arent doing anything to uphold them...doing more damage than anything. So they dont say nothing to me I say nothing to them... and yes I dont mind helping organizations in my community succeed. But Ive been doing this before Iota... so until I join a 3 letter org I just observe. Dont really like what I have been observing where I am....so I continue to stay assisting the Iotas and paving my OWN way as a sweetheart. Because we do our own things too its not just about smiling and helping Iotas get the glory.

I would just advise you to treat people the same way you want to be treated. I admit that some/many Iota sweethearts have taken heat for the negative reputations of other sweets in the NPHC (when we had sweets). I personally have not seen or heard of Iota sweethearts being nuisances and being disrespectful and I've stated this before in other threads and I believe other NPHC sorority members have also. It's not fair that some of you are met with attitudes from sorority members but those sorority members have probably seen and/or heard the many negative things that I saw on my undergrad campus regarding sweets (not including Iota sweets because we didn't have them) and that doesn't make it right but it's also not right for you to judge all sorority members based on the attitudes of some.

On a whole, the problem has never been that the NPHC sororities don't like auxillaries. We all had them at one time, although the sorority groups (such as the Sigma Rhomeos) were never as popular and widely spread. Also, even today there are auxillaries/affiliates that the NPHC orgs legally recognize and respect. Sigma Gamma Rho and Zeta Phi Beta both have auxillaries of adult women. We have the Philo Club. Philos assist the sorority and function as their own organization under the advisement of our alumnae chapters. So the issue has never been about not wanting auxillaries but more about if they were a help or a hindrance to their organization and others. As for the other sweets that were banned in 1990 by the 8 members of the NPHC, it was decided that they were not a help any longer and that they had indeed become nuisances and liabilities.

Ditto. This is probably because Iota Sweets are actually nationally recognized and generally well respected by Iotas across the board. So they have nothing to prove to us and don't have chips on their shoulders.

Yeah I definitely feel you. My mother didnt raise me to be a disrespectful person. She understands sweethearts to an extent because she was once one before she pledged a sorority, but then again, that was '77 and not 08 and sweethearts have definitely changed over the years. She'll quickly bring me back down to earth if she ever saw me being disrespectful to ANYBODY let alone to another organization with such a strong historical background. ESPECIALLY in the name of ISweet lol. Its funny though because lately Ive actually been hated on more by fraternities than anything and I dont get that one because I dont understand why a grown man would hate on a little Iota Sweet like me lol.

But yeah I graduated from school DEC of 07...so Im only 2yrs old and just not ready to move on from Iota yet...so I joined a grad chapter and pay my dues and stuff there. Because I know if i join a sorority that will and have to be my first and only priority as far as organizations are concerned... but Im just happy I get to do service anyway I can....even if I had no letter at all!
