Jen she said it when they were showing the video of the girls. It was the 'get to know the girls' video. Right before (if I remember correctly) the narrowing down to five.

My girl, Miss Connecticut, got robbed That's all I've got to say. When she wasn't even in the top 15, it went off. I have to say, this was one of the most annoying pageants I've ever watched. Some of the most attractive girls didn't make it to the top 15, while some of the ones that did were just scary. And the age range was huge...one was 27, while others were 19!!

p.s. Sheila, you were BEAUTIFUL!!! WTG GIRL!

I think maybe you are thinking of Oregon? And when I saw her I said "Whoever picked that dress needs to be fired. It's a boring bridesmaid dress. This is Miss USA, not your best friend's wedding!" Different strokes, I guess?

I was watching with my boyfriend (who is Latin and *general stereotype here* Latin men usually like a little more meat on their women) and he thought these women were FAR too skinny. I have to agree. He only liked South Carolina b/c she had a little something below the waist (She did have a to-die-for tush!).

I didn't like OK at all. Didn't carry herself well, ugly dress, idiotic answers. I know she's young, but you can't tell me with all the beautiful women in OK this was the only one they could get for this show?!?!

I loved NC and her answers were great. She was robbed, I think!

I still give all these women credit for getting up in front of all those people in bikinis!!!!!

I was excited to learn that Miss Missouri is from my hometown. I don't know her, but that's because she is about 4 years older than me, but it's cool that we both are from the same area in St. Louis. GO MO!!
I think that Miss Oklahoma was very pretty, but I have to agree: I would definitely have placed Miss Tennessee above her.

Miss South Carolina, in the past at least, has used a personal trainer based out of Charlotte, NC. You should see his before and afters! Go to www.bodydesignbymike.com and you can see her picture and lots of others, including current MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo (former Miss Teen USA, also from SC). The past four or five Miss SC USA's have used him, as did this year's Miss NC USA. People fly in from all over to see him - it's unbelievable!

And Miss NC is so poised and educated (Emory grad, masters, and a doctorate of dental surgery on the way from UNC!) that I really thought she'd be a great spokesperson.

Oh well. That's what you get when you have celebrity judges. Who cares what the actress who played Farrah Fawcett in an NBC TV movie thinks? Her boobs were falling out of her dress, btw. But in Miss America, the "real" judges would have narrowed the field much better. Oh, and there's a talent requirement.

Also (to shadokat's point), the age range is different in Miss America so you don't have 18 and 27 year olds in the same category!
Not that I want to change the subject but Miss America is a scholarship pageant. The winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up get money to further their education. Plus, they do have a specific platform that they must speak about during the interview stage during the live telecast. Yes, Miss USA women have charities of interest but it isn't a platform for the pageant.

Like you said with Miss America, they do have a talent portion that Miss USA doesn't. In my opinion it seems like Miss America is a much more 'well rounded' pageant. They are judged on beauty, poise, talent and speaking abilities.

Let's just say that no Miss America contestant will say that they want to spend the evening with Justin Timberlake so that he can teach them to dance. (Yeah, I still think OK answer was stupid).

In reading about the history of Miss America a while ago, I remember reading something about in the 1940s, Miss America was starting to be geared more towards education and scholarship. One of the head members wasn't happy with that--he wanted it to be more girls in swimsuits and pretty dresses, so he broke off and founded the Miss USA pageant, which is why it's the way it is today.

I'll see if I can find that info...

ETA:
from www.missamerica.com
Quote:
After winning the title, Miss Betbeze refused to pose in a swimsuit, which infuriated Catalina Swimwear, a major sponsor. Lenora Slaughter and the Board of Directors stood behind Yolande's decision, and Catalina Swimwear withdrew their support of The Miss America Pageant and began plans to start "Miss Universe" in 1952.
from www.pageantcenter.com
Quote:
The new Miss America (1951) Yolande Betbeze, refuses to pose in a swimsuit, insisting that she is a classical singer, not a pin-up. Officials support her decision. Miffed, Catalina swimwear quits as a major sponsor of the Miss America Pageant and starts planning its own promotional vehicle, the sexier sister pageants, "Miss USA" and "Miss Universe."
from www.missusa.com
Quote:
Who would have thought that a local "bathing beauty" competition spearheaded by Catalina Swimwear in Long Beach, CA would metamorphose into a landmark annual tradition with countless young women around the country vying to become Miss USA? As hundreds of millions of fans have watched in 125 different countries, the homegrown contest has evolved into a powerful, year-round, international organization that advances and supports opportunities for these role models.
So it was the swimsuit company and they withdrew their sponsorship.

So i wasnt in town to reply about this pagent, but i did get to watch it. I personally thought it was one of the worst ones i have seen. The answers were horrible! I;m sorry for anyone who new the girls in the top 5 but they did not represent themselves to well in my book. True miss Oklahoma was cute but "justin timberlake"????!!!! I admit i dont like the world peace questions but if you are saying you wanna meet mr timberlake at least give some intellectual reason.

Ok anyway, Miss California didnt make the top 15 but she is in my local, Kappa Delta Zeta, at Sonoma State university. We were rooting for her
