Uh...were we only talking about homeless people? I don't think any sane person w/ a heart would advocate taking a homeless person's shirt w/o providing them with another shirt.

But, since we're not just talking about homeless people, there are always diplomatic ways to go about things and it's only as rude as you make it.

exactly... there's no need to be nasty or rude right off the bat, but to me the situation is like...

I have a jean jacket that I wear most every day, and I leave it sitting down somewhere and all of a sudden someone takes it. And I know that *someone* has taken it. The next day at school, I see a girl I kind of know walking around school with a jean jacket on that looks JUST like mine, and I know I ain't never seen her in a jean jacket before.

I know it's not the same exact situation, but the emotion is somewhat the same, to me, when someone is wearing your letters who you know doesn't need to have them on, and they know it, and they're rocking them anyway like it's not an issue. it is, because it's disrespectful like somebody stole something outta your closet! Again, it's not something to get crazy and violent about, because I don't idolize anything, much less some letters or even my org, but it's something that you do have emotions about!

I feel you, chaosdst, about the diplomacy. there's a RIGHT and WRONG way to go about everything!

(but I am too tickled about the *diplomacy* of this thread so far... no "horror stories" yet? )

i have never heard anything about boyfriends not being able to wear girlfriends letters and vice versa. i know a few of my sisters have shirts from other fraternities. it must be a NPHC thing. if i marry a guy who is in a fraternity then i am allowed to wear his letters, and it wouldnt be a problem

So, in your org. a husband could not wear your letters? If I see a a person wearing my letters and it's a guy I just ask him a question and wait for the right reply, and then give him a grip and wait for the right reply. I love when I bump into my fraternity brothers.

People throw the "grip" outside of ritual?
