Just curious, but what made her look at Penn State if you're in California? (not that it's not a GREAT school)

It IS enormous, though, and going Greek is a great way to make it a little smaller and more manageable.

As I'm sure happened to you when you were in college, it will also have to do with the friends your daughter makes freshman year. The girls I roomed with my first year ranged from anti-greek to legacy to sorority-clueless (me). We were housed on the same floor as the smallest sorority on campus. You would think that would be a miserable situation, but they had such as strong sisterhood, were so kind to us, so enjoyed sorority life, and set such a great example that all but one of us ended up rushing. (I understand the sorority we lived with our first two years is doing great now, and no longer among the smallest. I'll always have a warm place in my heart for ZTAs!)

Don't know what the Penn State KDs are like now, but back in the late 70s, they were great girls!

Your color tag is missing a closing and your tags are out of order...if you open with [x][y][z] you need to close [/z][/y][/x] If you deviate from the order, it won't parse properly.

so (replacing the [ ] with <> so you can see it)
<b> <font=symbol> <size=4> <color=green> KD </color> </size> </font> </b> looks like:

KD

yay!! another ASA on here - and one who actually knows what The Diner is, to boot. At first I was thinking "oh, cute name, she must be Phi Mu or ADPi since they have lion mascots" and then I realized duhhhhh, Lion as in Nittany. forgive me, it's been a loooong week.

To get the Greek Letters that we're all used to using, you need to use capitals. That's probably kappa delta, instead of KAPPA DELTA.

rush starting tonight!

Rush starts tonight with orientation! I can't wait! I hope my pi chi group is cool. My group is all juniors so I know I won't be around freshmen but I kinda wanted to be in a group with freshmen as like another big sister to help them out as they adjusted to classes and rush. Oh well, everything is about to start!

The excitement builds!!!

Whoever made up the Rho Chi groups, it was ingenius to put all juniors together! Y'all have an entirely different pov than incoming freshmen, and y'all will be able to support each other.

Good luck!!

honeychile, that's exactly why we group the juniors together. they are having a completely different experience than the freshmen and the maturity level is different.

on another note tonite is orientation and i'm totally psyched!!! i'm a pi chi so we get our groups tonite. i can't wait. i totally loved my rho chi's (they were rho chis when i went through) and i hope that i can be there for the girls in the same way they were there for me.

kendra good luck and i know you'll love your pi chis!!!!!

PSUSigKap and BlueGBI - you guys have to keep us up on how rush is going.

I don't envy you guys trooping around to 20 sororities, but I'm sure you'll have a great time.

How many girls are registered for rush this year?

Thanks PSUPiChi... (i'm pretending not to know your affiliation )

I need the luck, I'm no longer scheduled to work Sat of open houses (I found a sub) but I now need to find a sub to work Tuesday of 2nd rounds. I'm going over there to see if i can be taken off, but if not, I'll have to miss parts of recruitment.

I'M NOW OFFICIALLY RUSHING!!!!

Today was orientation where everyone first gathered in the auditorium and we were given general information about rush. Then we split up into our Pi Chi groups. My group is all juniors with 3 Pi Chis and a J-board member.

We basically talked about basics: do not talk to sorority members, do not take anything for granted, etc. The basic theme is that recruitment is great, these are no-nos, this is who you report bad things to, don't listen to opinions, go with your gut. The biggest thing they kept stressing is that the only way to guarntee a bid is to go to all of your parties and get invited to pref. If you go to a party at pref, you are guarnteed a bid. Also, we went over the dress code. For open houses, you are allowed to wear jeans, a nice shirt, and flip flops since Friday is 10 parties and Saturday is 15 parties. For first rounds, you can wear khaki pants, khaki skirt. Seconds, its business casual and Pref, its a dress. So I'm much overdressed for 1st rounds since its khaki type wear so I'm going to wear jeans and a skirt for open houses then my khaki skirts for second rounds.

My Pi Chi's rock!! My Pi Chi group rocks!!!
