Let's see... even though our Recruitment Retreat is NEXT FRIDAY (I"m sooooo excited!) I'll have to pull out my Recruitment folder for this one.

Philanthropy: Jeans, Panhell shirts, and tennis shoes... nothin' fancy!

Open House: We all wear khaki shorts, capris, or pants and our wonderful jerseys! Stirs up converstation for why some are one color with one print and why others are another!

Theme night(skit night): Black pants, black scoop neck shirts, black boots(that are easy to dance in), hair pulled in a ponytail(or half up for all the REALLY short haired girls!), tasteful jewlery(drop, small hoop earrings, etc), and we all wear these really cute "Phi Mu Cafe" aprons we had for All-Sing a few years back(Our skit is "Phi Mu Cafe")

Pref: Black dresses that have sleeves, black strappy shoes, and our BEAUTIFUL badges! =)

Bid day!!!(ooooh I get so excited just thinkin' about it!): The seniors wear their jerseys, the juniors wear the bid day shirt from their year, the sophomores wear the bid day shirt from their year, and most of the new Phi's put their shirts on as soon as they run out of our chapel!

I am so jealous of all those schools who have recruitment soon! Our's is held in January, but we still know what we are wearing so that we have plenty of time to prepare. Our recruitment chair (my big) really wants us all unified this year, so we have clear cut rules.

Open House - Practice Round in December - Recruitment shirts and jeans, sneakers

Round 1 - Jerseys, stone khakis, brown belt & shoes, simple jewelry to match belt buckle, hair down & nicely done

Round 2 - Jeans, Philanthropy tee (new one for our new philanthropy!), black belt, sneakers, hair up with matching ribbon

Round 3 - Black Dress pants, black 3/4ths shirt, pink/light blue/white chunky jewelry, black boots, hair nice (girls in skits are wearing skit outfits)

Pref Tea - Black Dress just above the knee, sheer black hose, nice dress shoes, very nice hair, keys, pearls

Bid Day - Sisters in Jerseys, New Members in Bid Day Shirts!

I am so excited and it's still so far away!

Values Day: Panhellenic T-shirt (slate blue, I think); jeans, denim capris, or denim shorts; clean, predominately white tennis shoes, DZ flip-flops, or brown sandals; and 5 pieces of silver jewelry.

Philanthropy Day: "National" jersey (white jersey with green letters and cuffs); khaki pants or shorts; tennis shoes, DZ flip- flops or brown sandals; and 5 pieces of silver jewelry.

Skit Day: Our skit is the Delta Zeta County Fair, so the girls in the skit (and anyone else who wants to) will be wearing Western-style shirts and cowboy hats (that Randi, the horse show girl, will be contributing! ), jeans, and probably boots of some kind. Everyone else will be wearing pink, green, or white (or any combination of those colors) tops--nice tops, no less dressy than fitted polo shirts, but preferably more dressy; black bottoms of any kind (pants, capris, skirts); black shoes (closed- or open-toed); and 5 pieces of silver jewelry.

Pref Day: Of course, the black cocktail-type dress (any style in which the badge can be placed on the dress in its proper position); black shoes (closed- or open-toed); hose with closed-toed shoes, no hose or toeless hose with open-toed shoes; and badge with gold, diamond, or pearl earrings only for jewelry.

Bid Night: Bid Night T-shirt (no idea what it's going to look like yet!); jeans, denim capris, or denim shorts; sandals, DZ flip-flops or tennis shoes; and any jewelry you want!

Okay, now my fingers are tired from typing so much, so I'm going to go read some other threads now!

Edited because I'm a stickler for proper punctuation--or maybe just a big loser!

A question from a girl who's recruitments were NEVER as meticulously planned.....why FIVE pieces of jewelry? And do earrings count as 1 or 2 pieces?

Just wondering!!!!

Most likely so no one shows up with too much jewelry on. We limited pieces but never specified gold vs. silver, probably because most of us wore gold back then...

In my experience, 5 pieces of jewelry would equal two rings, one pair of earrings, lavaliere-type necklace and one tasteful bracelet.

Whoa, totally disagree with this one! I think if I saw a girl come through wearing shorts that long, I'd be like, where is her fashion sense.... that length doesn't look good on most ANYONE!

That's a good rule of thumb for SKIRT length, though, I guess. That's what we had in HS. Basically, just don't wear anything slutty.

as for the jewelry....

in my opinion 5 pieces is way too much. It gets distracting if there's too much.... I've always heard only 2 near your face (glasses count as jewelry for this rule) as in, necklace and earrings, or necklace and glasses, or.... you get the picture.

Though lots of girls now have their ears double-pierced and if they have SMALL studs it looks fine, not busy/clunky at all.

Just try to be your classy self :-) don't stray much from that and you'll be fine.

Not to mention - what if you never ever wear silver? (My lavalier was silver and that was it.)

As to the shorts rule - if you are larger or have short arms it's a good one to follow anywhere. Megan, I'm 5'8" too so I know exactly what you mean - things that look cute on short girls can be kinda dicey on us because there's so much leg there. I would say if you have thin thighs, shorts that stop about 4" below your crotch should be fine. If you are "blessed" with thighs like mine go a little longer. I've got some from Union Bay and Eddie Bauer that are a nice length.

In my experience advising, I've always told the girls that they had to wear either ALL gold or ALL silver jewelry.
That means if your badge is yellow gold, then the rest of your jewelry should be too!

Warning, old-fogey alumna response alert. . .

Does anyone else find the attention to extremely specific dressing details mildly disturbing and antithetical to our espoused princples?

Do individual members have to fork up the bucks and the time/energy to find all the specific (certain brand, color, length) clothing?

Sure, it's fun to plan great events and themes, within reason.

It is my own, personal opinion that this in one element that adds to the perception of recruitment as superficial and is not reflective of what we say we are.

This is a topic for thought and discussion, not for flames. I am not criticizing those campuses that do it this way, nor the previous posters. We're all in this together, and we ALL own where we collectively are today. Just as we all own the responsibility for thinking about our future.

I'm hopeful that the new NPC recruitment resolutions will start some meaningful thought and discussion at the local level. I truly understand that no one NPC chapter on a campus could buck the system and succeed.

I don't think that's necessarily an "old fogey" response, I think a lot of girls at smaller chapters/schools have raised the same point. If someone had thrown these guidelines at me I would have freaked out.

But if you have a chapter of 100 - 200 women - there's no way you can know everyone's personal taste and style. What one person thinks is a "cute" top may be slutty to someone else. It's just a lot easier to say go to Old Navy and get blah blah blah. It's one trip to the mall in the summer and you're done.

I haven't seen anything in this thread that women couldn't reuse for daily wear. Except the costumes, and I'm guessing the chapter pays for those. That's why we're supposed to be going to no-frills - there shouldn't be skits or costumes at all, that money should be used to help the chapter in other ways. But considering we've been "no frills" for 10+ years now and nothing has been done to put any teeth in this resolution, I would guess skits and costumes are here to stay.
