Yippee skippee... I had a job interview today! It was over the phone, and I was nervous as heck, but I think it went pretty well.
Boo-hiss: if I took the job, I'd have to move 2 hours away.

No worries. I already talked to the ladies at Beta Theta and the rest of the advisory board and we're working out options. I'm not going to give up on my sisters!

What sort of position was it for?? Phone interviews are the WORST!! You can't see how people are reacting to what you say!
Good luck!

It was a website coordinator/intranet manager position with the provincial guh'mint (government). The thing is, a similar job has opened up with a bank in town, offering more $ and the added benefit of not having to move 2 hours away. I applied for it (of course) but the guh'mint job is supposed to be decided next week, with the chosen applicant starting before the end of the month.
What do you do if you've applied for two jobs at once and you think you have a good shot at both of them, but one position will be offered before the other one even starts interviewing? Is it bad form/professional suicide to accept a job but then turn it down if something better comes along?

I'm sure they'd let you postpone your decision for a bit. It would, after all, mean relocating.
In the end you have to go with your heart. If it would really bum you out to have to move so far, don't take it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to ask them for a few days to give them my answer -- that is if they even offer me the job in the first place.
Then if they offer it to me and give me the days to make a decision, I'll contact the other places I've applied and ask about the status of my applications. I'm not really in a position where I can turn down a job, but relocation is expensive and time consuming!
I'm keeping positive though!

Would you and Mistermadly move or would you have to do a workweek commute, going back home on weekends?

We'd both move -- it's too expensive to try to keep up two residences.
Yippee Skippee - I have another interview! This one is on Wednesday at a company that makes content management systems for business, government, and libraries. The position is for a research analyst. I applied on Monster.ca and got a call the next day! The interview is with the VP, and I'm really nervous.
It sounds like a young, emerging, and innovative company and the best part? I wouldn't have to move if I got the job! Wish me luck!
