Express/Limited has kickass sales, if you wait a month after the whatever it is comes out. Half my E/L stuff is from sales, the other half from TJ Maxx or Marshall's where it got diverted. I've paid full price maybe twice. As often as all stores have sales nowadays, no one should be paying full price anymore, unless it's an emergency!
oh, the last thing I bought at Gap was a pair of boxers...I had a $10 gift cert and couldn't find a single other thing I would want to sport.

The thought of aurora_borealis rocking Lilly Pulitzer in Alaska makes me smile
I hate:
Those belted sweater jackets that were popular two winters ago and a little this past winter... and I hate it more when people wear them NOW with shorts or a skirt when they are cold in class. Get a cotton cardigan, please.
Wearing tennis shoes with anything other than shorts or jeans... I mean really, like White_Chocolate said, they make nice sandals for a reason. It isn't cute to wear khaki pants, a button-down shirt, and Nikes.
Black outfits with brown shoes, bags, or belts (not that this was ever IN style at ANY time). Same goes for black and navy... they do not match. I do not own a single piece of dressy navy clothing because I do not feel up to finding a cute pair of navy shoes!
People who lay in the tanning bed and they have those raccoon eyes. I am guilty of tanning on occasion(yeah yeah skin cancer) but when you have white eye circles and your legs are starting to look carrot-orange, you need to stop.
Wearing pajama pants or anything particularly raggedy to class. Especially if it's after 10:00... I'm sorry that it's so difficult for you to drag yourself out of bed and make yourself look semi-presentable. It especially bothers me when the girl is wearing letters or a party shirt with those pj pants... no one in my sorority does this but others do. If you are going to be a walking billboard, don't you want to say, "CLASSY"?

TRUE! I got stuff from Express, A+F, and Gap from sales that was just as cheap or even cheaper than stuff from places like target.

No offense but you reminded me of another trend that I hate... the coffee trend. My lil sis's boyfriend is ALWAYS drinking it, and now she is hooked on it... I don't get the whole fad with the flavored coffees and how everyone is OBSESSED with Starbucks.
|
as a starbucks employee, let me say that we DO NOT have flavored coffees. each coffee has a distinct taste because of the beans. we have many syrups that can add flavor to the coffee. thank you
oh to add, that obsession made starbucks over 3 billion dollars last year. i think it might be more.

Another bad trend that is unrelated to style
Everyone claiming that they have ABC, DEF, XYZ, etc. Or, worse doctors over or misdiagnosing this stuff and pill pushing.
If you're feeling a little blue after getting a bad grade on a test, it doesn't always mean you're clinically depressed.
If you double or triple check to see if you unplugged your iron, it does not always mean you have OCD
If you have a little difficulty concentrating or sitting still every now and then, it does not always mean that you have ADD or ADHD.
If you feel happy one day and blue the next, it doesn't always mean you are bipolar.
If you get scared in the dark because you fell once, it does not always mean that you have PTSD, lol.

LOL! Right now I'm supposed to be "working" by mu gawd, this is hilarious... here's my list:
1. The freshmen girls who show up EVERYDAY to class like they are going either to a.) Prom b.)Strip Club, to strip or c.)rave
2. People who used to be small at the beginning of the year and throughout the year have grown their beer bellies to an extent to when they wear their short-shorts/super low-rise jeans/or anything they are busting out all over. *icks*
3. wearing visors backwards, upside down, and tilted. *shakes head in shame*

I have to disagree with 2 trends listed on here... showing your midriff-- I do have cute shirts that show my midriff and I wear them out to the bars. I'm petite but I do not work out...I've been blessed to have a high metabolism so my stomach looks very fit. My belly button is also pierced so I have cute belly button rings (though I stick with a unique, little one with a clear stone since it goes with everything)... which is why I buy shirts that expose my midriff in the first place. It's not like I wear tiny, tiny shirts that show so much of my stomach, but my stomach is exposed at times... when I expose my stomach I do it in a cute way, not a slutty way. Someone also said trendy people... and I'm pretty trendy. I don't wear some of the outrageously trendy shirts at Arden B., but I do have the trendy, more toned down clothes from there.
Now I really don't like...
clear bra straps. You should wear strapless bras! I was watching "All American Girl" last week (for the first time) and a girl had a really cute black and white tube dress on, but she had clear bra straps too... unless the dress came like that, it would have looked so much better without them, they ruined the look. Also, I dislike when women let their colored bra straps show when they wear tank tops. Again go strapless!
I have a question...
What do you guys think about guys wearing headbands (kinda like sweatbands but they wear them to class and the bars)? Some fraternity guys do here... it looks good on a select few, but just bad on most of them. What do you think?

There are too many people to quote to do a real quote, and I am not doing any code.
Carolina Cutie: My friend is a school teacher in a remote Native Alaskan Village north of Nome, you fly to Nome, and then take either snow machines or 4 wheeler ATVs to get there in the winter/breakup, or a boat in the summer. I went to visit her and I did wear a Lilly Dress and matching handbag to the dance that was held. I was overdressed but then again as an outsider I was a guest of honor and a complete form of entertainment for the village. I only rock the Lilly in the summer though, May through Labor Day, just like linen items, open toed shoes, straw handbags, and of course any white shoes. I don't like the belted sweaters as they remind me of my mom in the early 80's, and they make some people's behind larger than life, mine included. I admit to wearing Keds with my cropped pants in the summer, and I have these really cute Nike canvas casual shoes I am waiting to wear. Shoes and handbags need to match each other and the outfit...however I have a navy suit I bought cheap, and I do admit to black shoes the one time I wore it. It is Alaska though, the people in Carhartts, flannels, and sporting mullets won't call me out. This lady next to me at the ballet had on a tie dye shirt, ripped stained Carhartt orange work pants, polar fleece leopard print socks, and birkenstocks. My then boyfriend the West Point grad, couldn't believe this place. Oh yes, ixnay on the pyjama pants anywhere but to bed or a fire drill, but that's just us.
smiley21: I like a vanilla latte, I just like a lot of milk in my coffee
Dionysus: here here for the over diagnosis and prescribing of America. My father was terminally ill with lung cancer, he subsequently died, the health center pushed pills on me as if grief wasn't normal and healthy???
TKE209Sweethrt: You read my mind on the visors thing. I saw some kids waiting for the school bus with the visors on upside down and backwards. I asked my students why people did this and they said "because they're stupid" they earned major points today. I also know what you mean about the gaining weight thing. I gained weight on my bottom half and did this amazing thing called buying new pants. When I sell clothes at work I am honest in a tactful way. I think that if something is unflattering, and they ask my opinion, I am going to tell them.

somewhat off topic, but I have a funny story about Tommy Hilfiger. My mom used to work in Dillard's in the houseware section. They sold a lot of Tommy comforters, sheets, etc. They had this great big pillow w/ the logo (of course) emblazoned all over it. One day my mom was walking around the store and found a seven year old kid beating the isht out of this pillow saying "Tommy F*ckfinger" over and over again. Ever since then I can't look at Tommy stuff w/o laughing my ass off.

*well, showing your toes period
*Those mini-skirts that are about 5 inches long-often found at AE and A+F too

Ok, just cuz I can't wear the mini skirts doesn't mean they aren't cute on others! Also, red lipstick is so classic! Dressing up is totally cool wherever you are, I LOVE the heels and jeans look, along with the jeans that have a green or beige rinse to them. Some of your things are ok, but simply don't hold!!!
oh and I forgot to say, sandals are 200% acceptable! You must have a foot thing.

Everything corporate America, especially hoity toity ass starbucks that charges you $5 for a cup of coffee that you could get the same quality at Circle K for $.99. I also hate people that wear clothing with big logos on it. Screw logos, I'm not a billboard.

I know you can find cute clothes for plus sizes, but seriously have you seen what they have been making lately? (I go as "personal shopper" for my friend) if you are a plus size DO NOT WEAR DRAPEY LOOSE CLOTHES! It will make you look bigger. But dont go too tight.
annnd
about my Starbucks. You CANNOT get the same quality coffee other places. Im sorry. But the vanilla lattes from our school coffee shop (Ritazza, its a national chain too) and even from the local independant coffee shop here do not compare in taste.
Everyone is allowed to have their little splurge in life, mine happens to have $3.69 venti vanilla latte.

Haha. I say people should wear what flatters them. I'm a bit hefty myself, but I dress to flatter my figure. But designers have been making soooo many clothes in big sizes that just shouldn't be made that big.
NO ONE wants to see an overweight girl in a backless top or midriff top.
I always say, and I have to remind MYSELF sometimes...
Just because they make it in your size, doesn't mean you should wear it.

PJ pants/sweats with letters: Okay, first - there is always the ONE sorority who wont do this - but we do, why? Because we dont want PNMs to think that we are the kind of girls who always need to be dressed up. We dont want our sisters to have to be something theyre not, cos thats not our thing.
Sandals: I wear flip flops. Theyre cute and they are the kind that look dressy when they need to and casual also. I am extremely poor and I cant go our and buy shoes that I will only wear only once in a while.
Feet: I go barefoot a lot. And I have since I was little. My feet dont look bad, but I have callouses on my big toes and they wont go away and I WILL not use any kind of skin-mutilator on my feet to get rid of them.
Visors: Upsidedown and Backwards... theyre just wanting to catch the rain!
Medications: Doctors need to watch who they are giving Oxycontin to. My mom has been on it for a long time due to fibromyalgia. But there are some people who shouldnt be on it.
