I thought most doctors told their patients--especially if it's their first exam with them--how prevalent HPV was. Every GYN I've ever met has always done the basic STI tests for first-time patients. With women of childbearing age, it's so important to know.

I was totally horrified when she told me... and she was really upset- not only that she has this, of course, but that her boyfriend would cheat on her and she has to suffer for the rest of her life because of it.
The thing is, I have never known anyone who has had an STD except for a guy that had the clap, and that is curable. But what about one that isn't? I mean, seriously, she has to go pick up a prescription for it and everyone knows what that is used for (thanks to the advertising) and she feels like she can never have sex again.
They were together for months, so I guess they weren't using condoms... but still... I mean seriously, you can get something for FOREVER which is just hard to understand. SO I have been trying to help her get info on herpes and how it affects you. There was a lot I didn't know, but now I am educated and I know that no matter how long I am with my boyfriend I am ALWAYS using a condom...
Anyone know what I can say or do, and above all USE A CONDOM! I am just totally freaked out.

I quit using condoms at the end of my first freshman year, it just got to the point where I couldn't get off anymore. Yes, it's dangerous, but I just didn't give a phuck. STDs aren't as big of a threat as people think they are, either that or I'm just really lucky. Its true about 20% of the people in this country have either Genital Warts or Herpes....one or the two. Believe me, I've done a lot of research on STDs. To my knowledge the only things you can't get rid of are Herpes, G.W., HIV/AIDS. Pennicillin will kill everything else. My theory on it all is, Herpes and GW wont kill you or make you sick. And if you get HIV/AIDS, unless you're Magic Johnson, you're phucked anyways.....so why worry about shit? These days you can't trust anyone when they tell you the number of people they've slept with. Seriously, people lie all the time about their number. If I intend to have sex with a girl I always tell them I've banged 7 chicks....but it's really around 10X that amount. Whatever number a girl tells a guy....we can usually tag at least 5 more on to that figure. People are nymphs, those that aren't just havent had someone bring the slut out in them....but its there.

As for your friend with the herpes...she'll get over it with time. Everyone has that initial freak-out stage, after awhile it goes away. And tell her to look at the bright side of things, if she finds someone with herpes it'll be all that much more better. But to be honest, I doubt thats the way she caught herpes. I mean you really should think about it.....she was probably being dirty phucking dudes without you knowing it and blamed it on her BF. Boyfriends cheating once on their GF and then giving them herpes right afterwards, that shit only happens on STD commercials. I know a lot of people, a lot more than you do. I've never heard of that happening to someone I know.....and I know people with HIV/Aids. My dick has been in and out of all kinds of pu$$y, I still havent caught Genital Warts or Herpes.....and I'm sexy. I doubt your friend is hot. I'm willing to bet she's a 4 or 5 at best....and I havent even seen the girl. U should think about it before you start worrying about catching something.

I dated someone whose ex-wife had gotten herpes when she cheated on him. That's how he found out she cheated.. when he was diagnosed. He told me shortly into our relationship and he was an absolutely wonderful guy but I wasn't willing to take the chance. I'm on some funky medications for Crohn's Disease that suppress my immune system and I was freaked out. It's probably the main reason we broke up. It's too bad because he is the only man I've dated in years that I thought I could stay with long term.

People today live to be in their 80's or older, and the sucky thing is that MOST SDT's WON'T kill you. I am not afraid of dieing from an STD. I am afraid of having to LIVE with one for the rest of my life. If you get herpes at 25 and live til 80-that's a long time to deal with open sores on your dick.If you get AIDS(which would really suck) people at least feel sorry for you. If you get herpes or something else, people just think you're nasty-even if it's not your fault. Just wear the condom and get used to it. I ended a realationship with someone who wouldn't wear one. Glad I did.

Same idea with wearing a seat belt. I am not afraid of dieing in car accident-I am afraid of waking up in an emergency room and not feeling anything from the eyebrows down and my mom having to feed me and wipe my ass for 30 years after because I am a very AWARE and alive invalid. Death doesn't scare me too bad, living a crappy existance does.

It's called RISK MANAGEMENT-not risk elimination. Sure we're all gonna die some day-but I'd like to choose the few ways NOT to do it if I can.

must get off high horse, getting nose bleed.....

Doctors and college health staff's need to have this post!!!!! Seriously, its funny - but its true!!!!

Anyone watch "ER" last night? A 13 year old boy was diagnosed with clahmydia and the doctor asked if he was having sex. He says "I've hooked up a few times." The doctors told him he had to tell the girls and have them come in and get tested. The kid actually went and brought 4 girls back to the ER, one ended up having serious complications from the disease. I think kids these days are having sex before they even get any sort of sex ed. I applaud MTV for their commercials promoting condom use and getting tested, hopefully they get through to the kids that sit around after junior high watching TV all day.

I dunno try those new Avanti condoms from Durex; maybe you should try them, meant to be more of a natural feel? Or just try different ones, Trojan has a big range.

Disagree with this... STDs are a big threat, it isn't as if every other person is HIV+, no. But there are many other such diseases there and yes, if you have unprotected sex with them you may not catch it - you may be "lucky" as you call it. It's like solvent abuse, a kid could sniff hairspray or whatever or light matches after spraying it, 99 times and be okay. And then the 100th time (or any time) that could be the end of him/her. Sex isn't meant to be a passport to death with a possibility that the next time/partner could be the one that gives you a disease. Like someone said, it's risk management, and responsibility.

This is where the a) wanting to know for yourself and b) if you do know then not wanting to infect and probably ultimately kill others OR of course wanting to help make sure others who have it & may not know - or may know and may keep it secret - from giving it to you. Oh and as for Herpes not making you 'sick' it's hard to to know what your "lot of research' involved : - ) (!) but symptoms of herpes during outbreaks are painful sores and blisters, pain + bleeding, flu like symptoms, painful urethral infections etc. And, being something you'd have for life, the symptoms can reoccur at any time. The genital warts STD meanwhile is reported to have the potential to cause cervical cancer in women - that would make them sick.

As for Magic Johnson being cured, try doing a search, here's one article: http://www.natap.org/2002/Nov/112502_2.htm "Michelle Lopez, a community activist in NYC, asked him during the extensive question and answer period to address the misconception people have that Magic was "cured". He carefully explained that he is not cured, that HIV is not curable today, and that probably he would be on medication for HIV for the rest of his life.

Re: Re: Sexually Transmitted Diseases

The dumb just get dumber.
She isn't a slut- she has barely even experienced sex- this thread is REALLY old- but she is doing well, She and I dont really talk about it much now- she seems to have it under control- but she was with her boyfriend and very faithful.
You are so ignorant. Herpes and GW may not kill you, but if a girl saw you pull your shlong out iwth sores or warts all over itdo you think she would give you head? your dick would hate your hand because that would be the only wait you would be getting off.
As for is she cute? You have no clue- she is really pretty- I wish I was as cute as she is. When we would go out she always gets hit on, but she is so insecure she hasn't dated a WHOLE lot. I know she has had sex since she was diagnosed. They used condoms.
As for idiots like you- I hope your dick falls off.
