I'm a huge scrapbooking and cross-stitch fan!

My scrapbook is mostly Kappa stuff - different socials, rush, philanthropy, etc. Then I also have sections on camp, and a big section from when I did study abroad in London. I have all sorts of paper and cut-outs and stickers... when I really get going, I spread my stuff out all over the floor and make a huge mess. It's so fun!

I've been cross-stitching for a few years I guess, but I've been really into it for maybe a year. Last summer I was really bored (taking one class, not many friends in town, working like 20 hours a week at Michael's) and started it as a way to pass the time - I sort of watch TV while I do it, but it's more for background noise - it's amazing how quickly time passes when I'm working on a project. I made a small framed iris for one of my littles, with her initiation date on it - it turned out really cute. Now I'm working on a HUGE Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas scene, I didn't really have too much time to work on it at school, but at home here I don't have anything else to do (I live on a farm, the nearest town is 6 miles down the road and it only has one stoplight... boooooooooooring place to live!) so I've been working on it a lot, but I still don't think I'll ever finish!

Mod Podge / Decoupage

I am ready to take on a new hobby and Mod Podge seems like lots of fun... just wondering.. is there specific decoupage paper that you have to use? or is anything fair game?

scrapbooking!

I am a scrapbooking fanatic. I can spend up upwards of 2 hours just browsing in JoAnne Fabrics/Michael's/scrapbook stores.
Almost every activity I have been involved with not only has a scrapbook but a matching bulletin board.

I am not sure if anyone has bought from them before, but I am trying http://www.creativecollectiblesdalla...reek_items.htm
for my next scrapbook. I would normally make my own, but I wanted to try something new.

About decoupage, I have never tried it, but I am going to soon (lots of free time this summer). Let me know how it goes!

random question -- would places like Hobby Lobby have sheets of styrofoam? I think I may have a crafty idea if they do...

Sorry, no clue. What do you have in mind?

Since you bumped this thread, I read back through it. You know that cat cross stitch I mentioned back in December? ... still working on it I will be a little old lady before it's done!

If you mean styrofoam like you'd use for silk flower arrangements, I don't know if Hobby Lobby has them. They do carry sheets of crafty foam stuff the size of a sheet of construction paper.

For the flower arrangement type of styrofoam, maybe you could try a home improvement store - like Lowe's - around where they have insulation. (suggestion from my hubby.)

thanks for the suggestion deltaphi (and mr. deltaphi!) !!!

I was thinking of the styrofoam like for flower arrangments in large sheet form!

I thought it would be really fun to make a personalized memo board with it!!

I figured styrofoam about 3/4 of an inch thick (or thicker) would make it light and at the same time easy to cut with a knife. I could buy some really cute fabric, make sure it is fitted tight enough and hot glue or super glue the fabric to the board.

get some cute coordinating ribbon and make the little memo board-like 'grids' and add the finishing touches with buttons and other little embellishments.

I just got home from Hobby Lobby, and thought I'd let you know that they do have rectangular pieces of styrofoam... 1 1/2 or 2" thick and 36" long. Hubby said it would be about the same size at a home improvement place, but probably cheaper too.

Random question for my fellow crafty folks...

Anyone know what the current airline security restrictions are on the following items?

Cross stitch and needlepoint: Are needles still ok? I figure scissors are right out.

Knitting needles? I heard somewhere that they're forbidden.

Crochet hooks? (If I can't knit I may have to learn to crochet )

I'm flying in a couple of weeks, and I'd like to take my cross stitch on the plane... I used to do that all the time (pre-9/11) and attracted great interest among my fellow passengers and the flight crew.

wow deltaphi thank you soooo much!!! you totally rock!

I know I could go to any store and buy a memo board, but since I'm not taking classes this summer, and still not working, I need to be entertained!!

I *finally* finished my cross-stitch bookmark & it's soooo cute!!
There's not one little square on that bookmark that doesn't have a stitch, so it took me awhile!

It's really cute, it has a little lion head at the bottom, an azure blue diamond at the top with a violet inside it, the ADP letters vertically in the center in azure blue, and 3 white diamonds on the left of the letters, and 3 white diamonds on the right side of the letters. The background stitches are all a deep navy blue color.

My original idea for the diamond at the top was to cross-stitch a miniature version of our black diamond badge, but that didn't work out as planned I went back and took out all the stitches and put a violet in there instead.

The total of 6 white diamonds on the sides of the greek letters are for our six original founders of the Adelphean society! I'm really excited!

aephi alum: Last summer I was told I couldn't take my cross-stitch on the flight (at least not the needles)

It might have changed since then though

aephi alum... sorry, I haven't flown in years.

texas princess... you're welcome! I always love finding new excuses to visit my favorite crafty store. What better reason than GC? lol It helps, too, that I needed a hair cut and Hobby Lobby just happens to be right there. Your bookmark sounds incredible! How did you do the lion? I was looking for a small one that I can convert to cross stitch. Finally found it, but I haven't managed to graph it yet. Not a biggie at the moment since hubby has me pulling my hair out over a Saturday Evening Post for his birthday...

deltaphi, I went online to find a lion small enough to cross-stitch on the bookmark and found a pattern here:

http://www.dawnsxstitch.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/leo.htm

I just used the lion head part and didn't cross-stitch "Leo" or the zodiac dates

Drat. It's hard to cross stitch without a needle...

"Take this plane to Baghdad or I'll... I'll... I'll cross-stitch a pillow for you!"

btw, that Leo is cute

ETA: Thanks for posting that link - she has some very cute patterns. I even found a giraffe
