Shannon was very courageous to make that decision. She has my best wishes for happiness and her college career. May she continue to keep an open mind, it is a very precious commodity. And should Greek life find her again, may it be what she knows is right for her.

Good Luck to Shannon!!!!! I wonder how many of the 1580 girls are still involved in this process or should I call it a marathon? Well last night I got a text from daughter that she is excited about ABC house. Two of her best friends there made the same house their first choice. So I think that new information made her situation a bit more pleasant. Hopefully all three will get their 1st choice and I can send flowers to the house for all three of them. That would be a perfect world.
I've never been involved in greek life so thank you all for helping me thru this nail biter. She did tell me that the girls told her that she would fit into the house and she did tell them that this is the only house out of the three that she could see herself in. So hopefully that was enough for them to know that she would put them as her first choice and somehow she got on the A list. What do you all think?
Thank you,,,,,,,sitting here biting nails until 4pm. (Now thats an attractive picture,,ha)

Perfectly said. Thank you!

Me too. We were both fortunate to love our preference choices; I do understand that not every PNM feels the same.

debann, you probably already know that we can't tell you anything about where your daughter was on any chapter's list. It's membership selection, which is private to each chapter and differs from chapter to chapter. There are so many factors and variables at play. That said, I am sending you lots of strength today, and I hope your daughter and her friends are happy. Go for a walk or go to a movie to distract yourself until you get the news. I am thinking of you, and all the moms and dads who are waiting.

Having helped with recruitment as a Recruitment Advisor (not my current position) I can tell you that only a handful of people see the lists when they are completed, we're talking 2-4 people. Even the women putting data and votes in the computer will not see the lists. It just works better if most folks don't know which list anybody was on each day or even the final day. Having seen the lists in the past, I have no desire at all to see them now, I'm not even curious. Seeing a list, to me, makes me feel how I think Bilbo Baggins felt about the ring of power he stole from Gollum.

Saw on twitter that 1195 women were placed - a record. Doesn't mean that all will accept their bids but sounds like it was a successful year!

Spring Recruitment?
On Pref day, my daughter was only asked back to 2 houses, neither of which she connected with. She dropped out. She thought she made a connection with girls in a few other houses, but was not asked back. She thought her high school GPA may have been one of the factors she wasn't asked back. Will she be able to participate in Spring Recruitment or will she have to wait until Fall 2013? What exactly is Spring Recruitment? Will the sororities only look at her FSU GPA? Thanks for the info.

As long as a Pref card is not signed, then she can participate in spring recruitment. Signing the Pref card is what binds you for a year to the group you receive a bid to. So she can do spring or wait until next fall. And then, they won't care what her high school grades are as she will have FSU grades.
Some chapters add new members in the Spring (or other informal Fall recruitment) if they are under what is called "chaper total" on that campus. There are many reasons why a chapter may not be at total and have room for more gilrs. Many campuses have seen increases in chapter size with the interest in greek life at a high right now, and when total is increased (sometimes it's based on chapter average), then that leaves room for sororities to do what they call open bidding.
Not all groups will have room for new members in the Spring, but if she has an interest and has done well in school then she can join in the Spring. Or, she can focus on grades and other activities this year (which is a very good idea) and go through again in the fall 2013.

Just checking in -
My daughter was invited to 7 of her 8 choices on Friday, and then visited 8 houses. Friday night was the most conflicted for her. She picked 3 but was conflicted about her 2nd and 3rd and didn't sleep well. She was very excited on Saturday to be invited back to all 3. She was very positive when she left her top pick pref party, as they were so excited that she would be joining them and they told her they would meet her at the fountain today. While excited, she has heard horror stories about this happening to other girls and then not receiving a bid.
I spoke with her a few minutes ago and she said four girls in her group recieved calls today that they didn't receive bids and they didn't need to come. She said they had only picked 2 pref parties to attend and didn't get bids from either. She also was told the pledge classes are going to be around 74 girls.
So now we are eagerly awaiting a text to see where she will be!
Can't wait to hear where everyone's girls end up!

Looking forward to hearing where everyone ended up today! I know my daughter is SO excited! I am excited for this crazy week to end and her life to get into a routine. I know she did not sleep well Friday night and has hardly eaten. It will all be worth it though.
I'm sorry for those on this thread who's daughter was not satisfied how things turned out. I do know for sure that next year AOII (and maybe another sorority) are colonizing at FSU next year which will open up a ton of new spots and I would guess they would be much more open to accepting non-freshman students. AOII has already hired a consulting firm to research the area for a house. Of course that will take some time.

Hijack, but is this still true under RFM? Without the chapters knowing an exact quota, how could they know how many women should be on the first list?

Not sure about that. I'm from the old hand bid matching days. I loved doing hand bid matching when it was a small enough Panhellenic. You really knew where you stood at the end of the process.

Okay, that's what I thought. Now that the computer does it, there is no reason to alphabetize them anyway (or rather, the gain in processing speed is likely negligible).
