TexasMommy- Hi I am from Texas actually, so I know what you're saying - I love the idea of the turquoise. But am going out of state for school, and as you said was a possibility, I kinda get the feeling that it wouldn't be right where I'm going.

I picked up some precious gold bracelets today while I was out, will probably wear pearl earrings, and still undecided on my shoes. My mom is telling me to go with maybe a cream color or gold pumps (which was what I was thinking), but considering maybe going more vibrant.. hm. Also, someone commented on the time frame I have to figure it out... I don't have too terribly much time to play around with colors (wish I did!) as I leave relatively soon.

PS. a "dress the PNMs" thread is the best idea I've heard all day

Hi I am rushing at University of Miami this semester and I am a sophomore. I need some help deciding what to wear to preference night. The rush guide says semi-formal/cocktail dress attire. I would really appreciate the help! Also is this dress too formal:
Thanks

Too bare. Too short. Too low cut. Dress to impress women, not guys.

Okay, would you be able to give me some examples of what to wear. I am a bit confused about how formal to go for preference night. Thanks.

I don't know how dressy things get at your school, but maybe something more along the line of these:

Obviously I like Shelli Segal for Laundry. Many of the dresses on this page would probably work and could be worn for other occasions after: http://www.laundrybyshellisegal.com/...ions_fl10.asp#

Generally speaking, when I think of Pref night, I think of:

http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/s...930&R=03393674

http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/s...&catalogId=301

Think more cocktail and less junior prom/homecoming.

Yes to the Dillard's dresses. I think the Laundry dresses are a little skanky (no offense B_R).

Here are some dresses from another thread:

Some of those look pretty mother of the bride to me, a little too mature for our age group and what we're wearing. (No offense to you L_A.) But they are definitely better than the red dress!

I agree. Some are a little mature looking. It's been a very long time since I wore a Preference dress and I think I'm a bit conservative with my clothing. But, yes, any of the dresses posted are better than the red dress.

It depends on the campus. On mine for instance conservative is better and those dresses are not "mother of the bride" (and honestly unless mom is in her early 40s, those look too young for that to me) but actually very appropriate...and safe. Though actually out of your dresses I think #2 and #3 would be cute for pref with tights like the models are wearing. That red dress...no. Definitely not.

To skkx3: The best thing to do will always be to ask the recruitment counselors at your respective campus for advice, because it can vastly vary. I would recommend picking out three or so reasonable choices (dresses that you could afford and could buy/order/receive in time for recruitment...realistic choices) and print out the pictures (or bring them if they happen to be dresses you already own) for some specific advice. That way you know you're getting opinions tailored to your recruitment.

Interesting perspective. Most of the moms of girls I know getting married are in their early to mid-40s. Maybe people get married really old or shack for a long time before they get married there?

I think dress #1 is cute. The model's messy hair does not show it off to its best possibilities. She needs better hair and accessories but I have pretty good vision when it comes to styling outfits and see things from a different perspective. My school is conservative and a lot of girls wear one shouldered pref dresses.

Not all of my favorite dresses on that site would not allow me to link to their images for some reason, so these were the ones I liked most that let me show them here.
