I knew she was on a downward spiral as soon as she mentioned The Blind Side.

Why is it bad I mentioned that movie? You said you didn't even see it. I liked it and I thought it had a great message. Here is this kid who came from nothing and instead of just living the dream based on his athletic abilities, he also finished college. There are so many athletes that choose not to finish college. I think that is sad.

Sure, you don't need a college degree but, it helps in this economy.

Because the movie is full of other issues and wasn't really related to the thread at hand.

The safeword is always pineapple.

Unless I'm unwittingly making a triple entendre.

Yeah, thanks. I stand behind the fact that I think having a college degree in this economy (regardless of whether or not you are a major Hollywood star or an athlete) is a very good idea.

And that is a very good and relevant statement.

You reduce everything to "offensive," "wrong," and "bad." It was just FUNNY and PREDICTABLE.

LOL. Because I knew you would end up talking about adopting a baby from another race. That's what that movie is based in. It wouldn't be remotely newsworthy or movieworthy if it wasn't interracial.

For instance, and this has nothing to do with interracial adoption, I loved "Lean On Me" and "Stand and Deliver" but movies like "Dangerous Minds" (I forgot the newer movies) are what Hollywood wants to show. LOL

I have a very good bet and suspicion that's not why she didn't like the movie.

But there are better examples that could be used.

The Pursuit of Happyness for instance.

And having a college degree in any economy is a good thing.

Have you ever read the book "The Blind Side" by Michael Lewis? I thought the book brought up some serious issues, and the movie kind of glossed over them (besides being a terrible movie).

I won't get on my Sandra Bullock rant, as it's a little off-topic. Needless to say that I think her Oscar was a big mistake.

That part is questionable if you read the book. Lewis doesn't make a big deal of it, and tries to make it into a "rags to riches" story...but honestly it seemed to me like a family taking advantage of a poor, athletically-gifted kid.

You know, I have heard of this argument by some people. To be honest, until watching the movie, I never read the book because I didn't even know it was based on a book. I'm going to check it out. Thanks for the idea because I am looking for some great summer reading! I really hope that he is still very close to the family because they were there for him when he needed them (from the movie perspective-the book I will check out). Oh, and I LOVE Sandra Bullock!

Oh no, DaemonSeid, "The Blind Side" is an excellent example of everything. It will be cited for years to come for everything.

Kids need supportive families.
Kids need mentors.
Education matters.
Go to college.
Take college seriously.
It's called a STUDENT athlete for a reason.
They can take your football but they can't take your education.
Black folks need white saviors...whoops...ignore that one.

LOL...it wasn't even a very good movie. I watched it on an airplane and was glad I hadn't forked out the $7.50 for a theater viewing. I was glad, as a Ravens fan, to say I'd finally watched it.
