Today/tonight was Pref. Hopefully, she was busy and with a full schedule.

Yeah, it was this afternoon, but I am just antsy pantsy! I also hope she had a full day and that her top three choices invited her back.

I am the father of a DZ senior at the University of Alabama. Remember "BamaDad DZ" from four years ago? Now I have a freshman daughter at Ohio State. [I need to change my screen name to "BamaBuckeye Dad" if I could only figure out how]. You ladies were spectacular in providing advice when my oldest daughter went through Alabama recruitment.
I'm a bit anxious. I posted my concerns on the Theta forum yesterday and Benzgirl was kind enough to provide a thoughtful reply. My daughter selected two, versus three, sororities on Preference Day (Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Gamma), thereby reducing her options for a bid. Benzgirl thought she would remain in contention for a bid by having selected at least two sororities, although Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Gamma are purportedly among the most popular at Ohio State.
Interestingly, over a half-dozen PNMs mentioned they also received two highly desired sorority options and a third choice they absolutely did not want among their Preference Day options.
Mere coincidence?

I think that would be the most likely combination for most girls. Having an option of a less competitive group is more likely since they usually are allowed to offer more invitations to their parties than the more popular groups.
As for the likelihood of getting a bid, as long as your daughter is high enough on Theta or DG's lists, she will get her bid, not listing the third chapter should not effect that as long as she wouldn't need to be a quota addition. She effectively eliminated her chances of being added to either group as a quota addition which may slightly decrease her chances of receiving a bid (minutely), but I don't even know if Ohio does QAs. If, however, she doesn't get a bid, I hope she really would prefer to not be in a sorority than to be a member of this third group.

If she does not get Delta Gamma or Kappa Alpha Theta, my guess is that she will be fine. I'm certain that all PNMs, including my daughter, were fully advised of the consequences of omitting a third choice from their preference sheet. She absolutely did not want to pledge the third unnamed sorority, so she must live with the results of her decision.

It's better than pledging and immediately dropping so kudos to her for knowing her mind, but sometimes I wonder what would happen if these girls would give these weak chapters a chance....

Bamadad, I PM'd you.
AOII Angel- I've never heard of quota additions, so I assume OSU doesnt do them.

Historically, OSU never needed QAs because of the quota/total structure. You could snap bid, though. With this year's change, I have no idea what to expect.

Yeah, that is a system used at a lot of schools to maximize placement of PNMs. Not everyone uses the system, and I didn't think that OSU did from hearing about the style of recruitment.

I think that when you go back to three out of 14 houses, everything can be pot luck. You can only invite so many back to pref and the fact that most of the girls went back to at least two, they should be very happy.
Two years ago, one of the other chapters that is also considered to be desirable only matched 12 or 13 on bid day, which sent shock waves through the Greek Community. They snap bid up to quota (25), but I think it showed that anything can happen.
All of the houses at OSU are great and I'm sure your DD will find a wonderful home. Some chapters are more popular with the fraternities but they may not always have the strongest sisterhood. And, each year a chapter can change with the make-up of the pledge class.
Other OSU alums and I have talked about how some chapters have changed throughout the years. One chapter was put on probation around 2002 for a keg party and they have had a difficult time ever since. This was a very strong chapter back in the 80s.

Good luck to those who were handed bid cards 2 minutes ago!
