Any idea why UW’s pledge classes are so small? I guess I’m surprised when they seem to be growing around the country and UW’s seem to be shrinking especially for such a large student body. Is it general disinterest, first year living in requirement, something else? Genuinely curious if anyone knows. Also wondering how Zeta did, looks like they are unhoused now. 🙁

I did see UW's quota has dropped and AOII closed last year due to dwindling numbers. You also have to remember a lot of people have put off college recently.
I found these numbers through Instagram as many houses posted their new member classes. Zeta didn't.

Well sure, but with an undergrad enrollment of almost 32,000 - these numbers are TINY. And it just doesn’t seem to be following the trends elsewhere this year where most pledge classes are way up with students who decided to wait a year to go to school.

Gamma Phi Beta is also at the University of Washington and judging from their new member class pic on Instagram, it looks like they have 24 new pledges.

This was a strange year with COVID (Washington has some of the strictest COVID laws in the country) and uncertainty as to in-person classes and what Greek housing would look like. As a result, the Greek Life Office said lot of women were hesitant to sign up for primary but are interested in COB. All chapters made quota (20 primary, 3 secondary) except for Zeta Tau Alpha (in their first year as an unhoused chapter) who matched 19 total, so it seems like PNMs during primary are still mostly looking for housed sororities, but I think Zeta has the potential be able to be very successful with COB and reach great women who aren’t as interested in having a house.
I think it’s hard to determine whether lower numbers are a trend now; we need a few more years of data points. I’m not too worried (yet) because COB seems to be very successful still.

Quota was down at Grand Valley State -- only 14. Everyone is COBing. Recruitment was moved up by 3 weeks, and there wasn't as much time to publicize. I'm guessing it's going to move back next fall.
Gamma Phi Beta took 15 new members through formal recruitment.
