oh yikes TBSG- how horribly uncomfortable! That's very poor rush skills on behalf of that chapter. No matter if a chapter is "into" a PNM or not, they should treat all PNMs equally. They also shouldn't have been able to stand around. If they weren't rushing or serving, they shouldn't really be in the room. Very poor guidance by the rush chair and any alumnae involved.

I'm so sorry you were made so uncomfortable! Keep this in mind - the other girls you talked to there may absolutely LOVE you!! One of the reasons I rushed my group without any of my friends was because, although they're absolutely wonderful, they tend to dominate conversations. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and keeping you in my prayers tonight. I hope it works out sweetie!

First of all, it sounds like you looked great.
It sounds like the active couldn't get in a word edgewise. Maybe she didn't want to seem rude by stopping the other PNM's epic or maybe she couldn't fight the onslaught, either. For all you know, she may have been thinking, "My God, will this girl ever shut up about the Russian language already?" She could be telling her sisters right now how that girl just jabbered on and on, and how she and the nice, put-together girl (that would be you) who had to listen to her were practically held captive. Trust me, she did notice you trying to ask apprpriate questions. I bet Jabbering Jill butted in on those, too, right?
Some of the other actives should have noticed your predicament and come to your rescue. Sounds like the rush retreat didn't "take."
And studying French for six years, and having the grace not to brag about your proficiency in the language, is not boring. It's impressive.
Now, I know you're tired. I remember that part. Take a hot bath. Eat some chocolate. Cry if you have to, and get out the frustration. Then go to bed and start fresh tomorrow. We're all behind you.

It really doesn't sound bad to me. I think that you should steer clear of Chatty Cathy the PNM at next round. Try to circulate and talk to as many sisters as possible especially the President, VP, Recruitment Chair, and New Member Educator. (or whatever they call those positions nowadays. ) Best wishes!!

TBSG, hang in there... things have a way of working themselves out. Take care.

I got a call which means no pref invite. I guess there is a chance at snap-bidding, but I don't know why they'd choose someone from invite when they could have someone from pref. So this concludes my rush thread.

TBSG, it sounds like you worked really hard at making a good impression and I'm so sorry things didn't work out for you! Are you considering COB at all?

There's really nothing to consider. There was only one group last year that I heard of COBing and well I have friends in the sorority, but they're mainly school friends. If they had it, I wouldn't know about it. I asked my Gammi Chi if they sororities would ever ask them or Panhellenic about groups interested and she said no they couldn't tell them if they did anyways. I guess I'll just have to find something else to spend money and time on.

I would still keep your eyes and ears open for COB opportunities...you never know what might come up. I am so sorry that things went they way that they did...it really did sound like poor recruitment skills on the part of the chapter you were at. You gave it your best and if they missed how awesome a sister you would've been, then that's their loss. Keep your head up

TBSG, please do not feel like YOU did something - that chapter's rush skills were terrible. It would have been one thing if they had too few sisters to talk to all the PNM's, but to do what they did? Come on, my chapter sucked at rush and even we knew better than that. Not to mention if we saw a PNM speaking for another we would have separated them quickly.
Try looking into the service sororities and local social sororities at Truman - you might find the sincere sisterhood (pardon my Sorority Life quote ) you are looking for there. Keep your head up and stay positive!

TBSG, sorry things didn't work out for you. But hey, don't give up!! You sound like you'd be a great asset to any sorority. Are you totally against rushing again?

TBSG, I am so sorry that formal recruitment turned out this way for you!! And I know that you have probably already considered this, but please please please think about one of the other groups on campus. If you want the college sorority experience there is no reason you can't have it!!
Simga Chi Delta's recruitment starts 9/16, Prim Roses's starts 9/12, Alpha Simga Gamma's starts 9/9, I couldn't find when Alpha Phi Omega's starts, and Tau Lambda Sigma's starts 9/9.
On their website it says the Prim Roses won Chairman's cup last year, and I know that of the last four years TLS has placed second in Lakeside once, won twice, and won skit at Homecoming once. So if you were to consider one of these organizations you would definately get to participate in campus events like that and have sisters as well. Also, it could very well be that the Prim Roses will get to become the sixth sorority and so you would still have the oportunity to be in a national in college.
I realize you may have had your heart set on one of the five, but I just ask that you consider that there are other social and service sororities at Truman that are very active.
And please don't be too hard on yourself, I agree with 33girl that the chapter's rush skills were definately not up to par in this case! So keep your head up and whatever you decide to do know that a ton of GCers are behind you!

TBSG, I'm so sorry you got a call this morning. Please believe me, it's not your fault, not at all. I wholeheartedly agree with those who have questioned that chapter's recruitment skills, it sounds like they didn't have their act together whatsoever.
I'm in my sorority due because they were COBing, they invited, I went, and the rest is history. If you decide sorority life is something you're still interested in, please consider COB if offered or any of the local sororities on your campus. It looks like there are some outstanding locals there with many years of sisterhood and campus loyalty.
No matter what you do, I hope you decide to stick around and post when you have time. I'd miss you.
Christin

We're behind you TBSG!!!
Tbsg,
I'm so sorry that recruitment did not turn out the way you wanted. From everything you described theses sororities need major work on their recruitment skills.
I would wholeheartedly encourge you to listen to pbear19's advice:

It seems that there are many, many other options to experience service and sisterhood on your campus...please give these sisterhoods a chance. You are obviously a postive-minded woman who could contribute a lot to a sisterhood, I think you should absolutely look into all the organizations on campus.
violets
Please keep posting and let us know how you are.
P.S. On a shallow note, how can you possibly resist a sorority called "Prim Roses?" That sounds gorgeous.
