I have had the pleasure of meeting and partying with Drew Carey. He is an alum of the Delta Omega chapter of Delta Tau Delta at Kent State, and during my collegiate years and shortly thereafter he used to come to KSU's Homecoming.....he was very funny and down-to-earth.

I didn't have the patience to read the whole thread, but Chi Omegas I can vouch for are Lucy Liu, Sela Ward, Mary Ann Mobley (former Miss America, actress, she's on Game Show Network a lot!!!!!!!!) Joanne Woodward (actress, married to Paul Newman), Joyce DeWitt (yes, Janet from 3s Company!!!!)
I have a hard time believing there are not others, particularly with as large a national as we are.

That's hilarious -- I've heard the Carly Simon rumor, too! We had some Thetas call and yell at us after we listed Rue McL....han (can't spell) as an alum in our NPC view book. Our mistake, BUT Blanch (the character) was an Alpha Gam on the show.

Famous Chi Omegas
These are some of the names my chapter has gathered from other websites....I know some of them (like Heather Locklear and a couple of other actresses) were not "official" -- I don't know if they were not initiated or if they disaffiliated or whatever....if anyone knows the real deal on any of them, let me know!
Also, there are a lot of other women in other fields....too numerous to mention. Like someone else said, we've had a lot of members!
Kathryn Grant Crosby, actress
Joyce Dewitt, actress (Three’s Company)
Lisa Huber, actress, (Passions)
Lucy Liu, television and film actress (Ally McBeal, Charlie’s Angels)
Shelly Long, actress (Cheers)

Apparently actress Jennifer Garner, star of "Alias", is a Pi Phi. That one hasn't been posted yet.

... Our sorority has done a lot of research on Sigma Chi famous alums for Derby Days before (well, not a lot, but anyway...), so here are the ones I can remember:
David Letterman
Carson Daly
Burt Reynolds

Dave Matthews is from Virginia, and I think he may be from Charlottesville. Can't speak to the Kappa Sig part, though.

I have to agree.. I've never heard of any famous ASA alum... the only one I heard was Pamela Anderson Lee but I was then informed later that she never went to college so she couldn't have been an ASA... but it kinda makes me sad that we don't have anyone famous to claim...

Dave dropped out of High School at 16. He PLAYED fraternity parties at UVA in the early 90s, which is probably how that rumor started. But he did not go to college.

In reference to other comments:
1. I heard Dave Matthews was born in South Africa (thought the part about Virginia and fraternity parties is true).
2. I heard that Pamela Anderson started college to become a nurse, but never finished (obviously).
Just random things I hae heard.....correct me if I am wrong!

Dave Matthews
In light of all the Dave Matthews posts, check out his bio at the Dave Matthews Band Mailing List website. He did finish high school(in Johannesburg), he did not got to college, and the band got its start in Charlottesville.

Ladies,
There are almost certainly some famous people from your sorority. Maybe they're (you're) simply not hung up on name dropping.
You have some very good chapters on some of the campuses where I advise -- and in the long run, isn't that what is important?

Sandra Day O'Connor is a Kappa Alpha Theta.
Kate Spade, sister-in-law of David Spade (I think), is a Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Helen Walton, widow of Sam Walton of Wal-Mart fame, is also a Kappa.
Some others are Mariska Hargitay, Donna DeVarona, Madelyn Pugh ("I Love Lucy" writer), and Barbara Feldon.

I serached the Internet to find out about this senate stuff. The Theta one was Nancy Kassenbaum... she is considered the first woman elected to senate in her own right.
Here is what I found...
Out of the first five female senators, the three women who served a full Senate term all succeeded their husbands. Hattie Caraway (D. Ark.) initially filled her dead husband's term but was twice re-elected. Margaret Chase Smith (R. Me.) succeeded her husband in the House, then ran for the Senate on her own. Maurine Neuberger (D. Ore.) replaced her incumbent husband when he died two days before the deadline to file for reelection. It was 1978 before a woman was elected to a full term who was not a political widow succeeding her husband; Nancy Landon Kassenbaum (R. KS) was a political daughter who had not held public office prior to her election to the Senate.

i can confirm this one susan helms was a special initiate of the pi gamma chapter in 1998(my chapter) she was the first woman to live on the mir space station, and she brought her badge with her on her. After returning she presented her badge back the chapter as a gift to thank us for initiating her (she framed it w/photos taken from space and stuff like that)..unfortunately it was stolen from the chapter some time last year, i don't know if i has been returned.

I've been hearing this bette midler thing for a while and from watching VH1 behind the music, I give you my conclusion.....
Bette Midler went to college in hawaii....
I don't think we've ever had chapters in hawaii...
second she dropped out of college, which makes her not an alum.
I wish it were true though! oh well....

I don't know where and how that Bette Midler rumor started. She's not on the International website as a famous alumna so I figure that she isn't. It would be cool though.

Best link (that I've found):

The one we always got a kick out of was Loula Kendall Rodgers, who designed the Confederate Flag!
I just discovered that the woman who played Maybelle Merriweather in GWTW was an ADPi, too.

ps - I love Bette Midler!
