The SK chapter at my school is unfortunately no longer active. Two of my best friends from my freshman year pledged Sigma Kappa when they came on campus at the beginning of sophomore year. One had had a distastrous Rush, the other didn't find a home amongst the existing sororities and dropped Rush. Both women were thrilled with their choice to become a Sigma Kappa from day one. I believe the colony initiated close to 100 members in its 1st year. Those women were truly the definition of diversity. They were enthusiastic about Sigma Kappa--extremely so. You couldn't go anywhere on campus without seeing their letters. No mean feat against chapters that had been there for 50-75-even close to 100 years. I thought they were a great chapter that truly was a sisterhood.

Hi, I am a Kappa at Babson College out in Boston. I was reading the posts on the Sigma Kappa page because the only other sorority on our campus is Sigma Kappa. It's difficult because there are only two sororities on campus and we often have disagreements - however - I can't believe some of the things I have read on these posts. Why would you say horrible things about these lovely girls on their own post? Every single chapter of every sorority is completely different, just like every college campus has a different mix of people. I get incredibly frustrated with people who make generalizations about sororities by one experience they have. I also get very frustrated with people who go onto public websites such as this one and bash a sorority that they don't even belong to. A sorority is something that can only be experienced. You can't sit here and tell me what Sigma Kappa is like when you don't even belong to that sorority. I have not always had the best experiences with all the Sigma's at my campus, but I can tell you that they are a very diverse group of girls, with such great intentions and they have a truely unique bond of sisterhood.
I guess I just feel that it's really inappropriate in the first place to ask a question like "what are sigma kappa's like" on thier own posts. What kind of answers were you expecting? This is a place for sisters to come and meet other sisters, get ideas and share thoughts, not for them to come online and see that people think they are snotty, or rude.
Well enough rambling for me, but I do want to say one last thing, these ladies are clearly classier than you who post nasty things about Sigma Kappa's, and I am proud of the way they handled your pathetic attacks at thier sorority.
I think you all are a great group of girls!

Sisterly love,
Casey

Oh, my little Casey, you never fail to impress me! What a wonderful post! You make me so proud!!!

PS--SK's--keep your chins up! You know who you are and what you stand for! Don't let anyone tell you differently!

Hey Sig Kaps...I just wanted to let you know that the Sigma Kappa sisters at Eastern Michigan University are great girls! They've won Greek Goddess at Greek Week the past two years (raising over $2,500 each year) and were named the "chapter with the best sisterhood" at the Greek Awards banquet.

I did want to clear up one thing, however...

Actually, Alpha Gamma Delta was the first to invite a non-caucasion women into our sisterhood when Diana Lam was initiated into our University of British Columbia chapter in 1953.

Thumbs up

I think I posted this in the thread about finding the article about SK @ UMichigan and Rush in Seventeen but SK was one of the first sororities I heard about and probably the reason why I wanted to join. I remember seeing pictures of a huge front lawn leading up to a big house, roses in girls bedrooms and faces of different colors, sizes, all beautiful in their own way. Above all I saw sisterhood, something that binds us all together whatever our letters.

In Greek Sisterhood,
Michelle

Hi, I'm a Sig Kap from Arizona State for whoever was looking for them. I love my chapter and never regret choosing it. For the people who said Sig Kaps at your school are rejects who didn't get into the Jewish sororities--shame on you! What a thing to say! I am proud that my chapter accepts all races and religions with open arms.

I do have to say, and this isn't just related to SK or any sorority in particular, but it's a theme I've noticed around these boards on several occasions and I had to comment upon it - so what if you WERE "ugly" or "fat"? Are PNMs actually judged on what they look like? You'll probably say no, but I've noticed whenever anyone is defending their chapter around the boards, they generally say "and we're not ugly or fat". Frankly this makes me not want to rush at all, as if it's a beauty contest.

That's my off-topic bit of the day.

I am a Sigma Kappa Alum from WSU in Washington State. When I was a member, I was so proud that our chapter was so diverse, down to earth, and real, with the biggest hearts anywhere. I am please to see that nothing has changed; these wonderful women are still the best and big hearted, and always have a kind word for anyone. They are not the largest, and weren't when I was there, but that doesn't matter because these women work hard to accomplish what they do, which results in more and more wonderful, caring members each year.
Like I'm sure was stated before, you cannot judge a national organization based off of individual groups, as characteristics will differ from chapter to chapter. But no matter where you call home, I'm sure that it's a wonderful place for you.

Wink SigKaps Rule!

I just became a new member of Sigma Kappa at Eastern Michigan University. Here we carry either the highest or one of the highest GPAs on campus. We are also known as the nicest and one of the most diverse. I am very proud to be a member of my chapter. I would not trade it for all the world.

Guess what??
Oh my god- we are so excited- I know this may not seem like a big deal for the Southern girls with the HUGE houses (we're so jealous up North, ladies!!), but we are pledging in 23 girls this semester. I know that may not be a big deal to all of you, but on a campus where the average house gets 8-12 girls a semester, you cannot even believe how awesome it is to get 23 great women!!
23!! And still COBing for the best of the best!! I'm so excited!!
How is recruitment going for all the other Sigma Kappa's??

I just wanted to put in my $ .02...my boyfriend went to TCU, and I hung out at his frat alot-one of the last years before he graduated, Sigma Kappa started a new chapter on the campus, and the girls I knew in it were so nice!! One was a really good friend of mine, and she was so sweet, smart, and beautiful!!

About 6 months later, I was in an airport, and saw a girl wearing her SK letters, and we started talking-turned out she also belonged to the TCU chapter, and she was also really nice and friendly.

I guess amidst all the rambling here, I'm trying to say that all the SK's I've ever know have been awesome girls! They really represented their GLO well, and gave me a great impression of SK-and I never knew about them before they came to TCU!!
