Re: Honest answers only please

I'll go ahead and put myself in the hot seat...

If you had an opportunity to attend a "closed" meeting (ie. Boule, Regional Conference) COMPLETELY undetected; would you go?

No I wouldn't go. If I am not a member, what would I be getting from it? That's why meetings are deemed "closed"--they are strictly for members, with information that's pertinent to THEM. I suppose non-members would want to go because they feel as though they would get a "one-up" on something.

If all membership requirements were TOTALLY waived and ANYONE could be member, would you still want to be an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman?

That's actually a hard question. I would still want to be a member and still want to put in my best effort for the organization. Even if there were no requirements, eventually those who truly had love and respect for the organization would be seen doing what they should be doing (paying dues, doing service, being active in the structure of the sorority by being on committees/being an officer, etc.).

Now I gotta go back and answer more questions, so I hope the thread stays open...

And taking a crack at this one:

Are you currently involved in other organizations? If so how many? Is your interest in AKA genuine or is it just another organization to add to your resume?

I'm very involved with Gamma Sigma Sigma, which is a service sorority. I'm involved pretty heavily on the alumnae level (President of my Alumnae Chapter, a Chapter Consultant, and National Staff).

My interest in AKA is indeed genuine--and I have had people ask me why would I join another greek organization when I am already very active in GSS. I don't find it to be another organization to add to my resume by any means.

Do you think you can remain a committed member to those you are already involved in and maintain membership in AKA if you are chosen? Do you have the funds to support all? Do you have the time to support all?

I honestly think I could be a committed, financial member. If I didn't think I could give my time, effort and money, I wouldn't pursue it at all. Nobody should join anything like that knowing full well they can't commit to it. It's a disservice to the organization.

What are you actively doing to obtain membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha?

Right now, I am hoping to begin attending the events and supporting the service projects of the graduate chapter I'm interested in. I have just made a contact and I'm excited about going to my first event.

If you are a grad level interest, do you find that attending grad events are expensive? If so, how do you expect to pay dues?

So far the costs of attending events hasn't killed me! Again, that was something I really thought about BEFORE expressing my interest.

For any contacts made with members, is it genuine (considering these will be the people you may be working with) or is it just a means to an end (I've got letters)?

I feel it's genuine. We have known each other for quite some time and we were pretty cool beforehand. I didn't even know she was an AKA until recently, and when I expressed my interest to her she was very helpful (but not TOO helpful). Hopefully I will have the opportunity to work more with her (and the rest of her chapter) as I attend events.

Sweetheart, you failed to answer my Soror Abaici's direct line of questioning...

There are ONLY A FEW WAYS that you would be absolutely denied membership into my Sorority... If you had done those things and an invitation was unable to be extended to you, would you try to join another sorority? Inquiring minds want to know...

I do apologize. I was taking the original question at face value. If I applied to your sorority and was not extended an invitation, I would not go to another organization and apply.

I am a bit confused

First you say you would join anybody's Sorority if an invitation was unable to be extended to you and now you are saying something different...

Why the discrepancy? How can you explain this?

Ignorance of the questions has yet to be an excuse... You can always request clarification...

I'm confused as well Soror, but oh well...

If a memberfriend invited you to a function and you have a scheduling conflict, what would you do?

Would you think it was fair of the memberfriend to refrain from extending future invitations?

You have misinterpreted my responses. I never said I "would join anybody's Sorority if an invitation was unable to be extended ". Ignorance.... Excuses... Clarification.... hmmmm
You seem to be the one asking for clarification.
