I heard that song for the first time in Vegas - it was one of the songs played for the dancing fountains at the Bellagio. I just stood there on the sidewalk and bawled for no good reason. People thought I was crazy! Great song, though.

I am really really going to date myself here...

Helen Reddy: You and Me Against the World. It's a mom singing to her daughter:

You And Me Against The World
( Helen Reddy )

You and me against the world
Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world
When all the others turn their back and walk away
You can count on me to stay

Remember when the circus came to town
And you were frightened by the clown?
Wasn't it nice to be around someone that you knew?
Someone who was big and strong and looking out for

You and me against the world
Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world
And for all the times we've cried I always felt that
The odds were on our side

And when one of us is gone
And one of us is left to carry on
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will get us through
Think about the days of me and you
Of you and me against the world

Remember when the circus came to town
And you were frightened by the clown?
Wasn't it nice to be around someone that you knew?
Someone who was big and strong and looking out for

You and me against the world
Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world
And for all the times we've cried I always felt that
The odds were on our side

And when one of us is gone
And one of us is left to carry on
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will get us through
Think about the days of me and you
Of you and me against the world
You and me against the world
You and me against the world
Then her daughter says "I love you Mommy" and she says "I love you too baby"

For my mom and I, it has always been "You and me Against the world". She has been so sick lately, I just sob if I hear that song because, I can't even think about "When one of us is gone" (tearing up now as I type this).

The other also relates to my mom and her current health:
Laura Branigan

Through the back window of a '59 wagon
I watched my best friend Jamie slippin' further away
I kept on waving 'till I couldn't see her
And through my tears, I asked again why we couldn't stay
Mama whispered softly, Time will ease your pain
Life's about changing, nothing ever stays the same

And she said, How can I help you to say goodbye?
It's OK to hurt, and it's OK to cry
Come, let me hold you and I will try
How can I help you to say goodbye?

I sat on our bed, he packed his suitcase
I held a picture of our wedding day
His hands were trembling, we both were crying
He kissed me gently and then he quickly walked away
I called up Mama, she said, Time will ease your pain
Life's about changing, nothing ever stays the same

And she said, How can I help you to say goodbye?
It's OK to hurt, and it's OK to cry
Come, let me hold you and I will try
How can I help you to say goodbye?

Sitting with Mama alone in her bedroom
She opened her eyes, and then squeezed my hand
She said, I have to go now, my time here is over
And with her final word, she tried to help me understand
Mama whispered softly, Time will ease your pain
Life's about changing, nothing ever stays the same

And she said, How can I help you to say goodbye?
It's OK to hurt, and it's OK to cry
Come, let me hold you and I will try
How can I help you to say goodbye?

How can I help you to say goodbye?

I was thinking the "My name is Joe" song is that one country song. I can't remember the guy who sings it, but he's married to the girl from Father of the Bride. I'm having such a brain fart with names right now. But anyways, that song actually made me laugh. When I first got with my ex, I was supposed to leave for Italy a few days later and I didn't wana leave him. So we were sitting in my car and I was crying, and that song was on, and at the end it says "I love you... Joe". And, well, that's his name. NOW it makes me cry.

"Good Riddence" - Green Day
"I Can Only Imagine" - Mercy Me
"Fire and Rain" - James Taylor
"Thank You" - Ray Boltz
"God Bless the USA" - Lee Greenwood
"Amazing Grace" when played on the bagpipes.

I was at a memorial service on Christmas Eve, and four of these were played. There wasn't a dry eye in the sanctuary - and there were over 1,000 people there!

Tracy Chapman - The Promise

If you wait for me
then I'll come for you
Although I've traveled far
I always hold a place for you in my heart

If you think of me
If you miss me once in awhile
Then I'll return to you
I'll return and fill that space in your heart

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
If you'll be waiting

If you dream of me
L like I dream of you
In a place that's warm and dark
In a place where I can feel the beating of your heart

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
If you'll be waiting

I've longed for you
A and I have desired
To see your face your smile
To be with you wherever you are

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
Please say you'll be waiting

Together again
It would feel so good to be
In your arms
Where all my journeys end
If you can make a promise
If it's one that you can keep
I vow to come for you
If you wait for me

And say you'll hold
A place for me
I in your heart.

Mostly things that remind me of my childhood and my dad.

Butterfyl Kisses - Bob Carlisle

my dad plays the guitar and I would sing with him:
Stuff from Kate Wolf (folk/country)
Stuff from John Denver

No, that's not Brad Paisley, that's "Chain of Love" by Clay Walker, if I'm understanding the song correctly. With the waitress and the huge tip, and the broken down car, etc?

Anyway, I saw the video for Garth Brooks's The Dance the other day and it brought tears to my eyes!
