A Boy Scout sleeping bag.
Before I got that, I used my father's military issue mummy bag (had a hood, so that you could really wrap up if you wanted to) from WWII. No one had me beat!
And for a book bag, I used his Army rucksack, compete with name stamped on it and pockets for, among other things, ammo (which, of course, I did not have).
Sometimes I miss being ten, but since my son almost starts crying when he says he wants to stay 8 forever, I'd better not tell him.

Everyone with their cute fun girly sleeping bags can just shut up already.
I never had one and WISHED I did. Don't ask me what I used for sleepovers, I can't remember.
For 5th grade 'graduation' my parents wrapped up this HUGE box, which I thought might have been a video game system. It wasn't. So I could go to sleep-away camp for a week that summer (in the woods of Mass.) I got an UGLY blue sleeping bag with plaid lining. EWWWW. The whole event is on home movies somewhere and I laugh so hard I cry whenever we watch it. It became a family joke and both my younger sisters got 'ugly' sleeping bags for 5th grade graduation too. Awful parents we had!! lol
I think, eventually, one of us had a Minnie Mouse one, but I can't remember for sure.

I know this is old, but I was just at my parent's house and dug up my old sleeping bags. I had a JEM! one and one with He-Man & She-Ra. Yeah, I'm that cool.

Mine was a light blue comforter that I loved as a kid. When my parents got me a bigger bed, I refused to give up the comforter, so my ever-indulgent mom made it into a sleeping bag.

I had a Winnie the Pooh sleeping bag! When my family took me to Norwegian events, they would put me under a table in my sleeping bag so I could nap without getting stepped on.

My siblings and I had ones from EMS. My mother asked my aunt and uncle who were big campers for advice and they said a "real" one would hold up much better. They definitely weren't as cute but they did hold up. Both of my kids used my now-antique bag for moderate temperature camping. My son also has an REI below-zero bag that he uses for clear bead camping with his troop. My daughter's troop leaders were too sensible to schedule campouts in the mountains in the winter.
Two girls in my cabin my first year at Camp Nawaka had very cool ones that looked like gigantic Wrigley Spearmint Gum packages. ZTAMich, what camp did you attend in Massachusetts?
