I can't believe the Yankees blew that game. I was sitting in my room screaming at the TV. Just really made me angry, I can't believe Rivera blew it.

As for the fight - it was entertaining and all, but I thought both sides overreacted (especially A-Rod, Varitek and Sturtze).

agree. i was quite shocked actually that a-rod was yelling what he was at tek. honestly, i don't think arroyo intentionally hit him but we'll never know. if a-rod would have just taken 1st base then things probably wouldn't have gotten as nasty as they did.

but i'm glad the sox won!!! now if only they don't f up this game, which they seem to be doing...

not the classiest move on a-rod's part...i'll agree he should have shut his mouth and just gone to first (although that's my opinion in any situation). i was just as surprised that tek reacted the way he did (although maybe i shouldn't be - he's the de facto captain).

I am just curious to who all will be suspended and for how long. Was I the only one to see Lofton go nuts?

It sucks Kapler got the boot when Sturtze did not.

I have that game recorded. Best game of the season. Just like the July 1st game probably was for the Yanks.

I was surprised that they showed that fight on the news. I could read A Rod's lips, and I was shocked. Then of course they had to show Don Zimmer getting flipped by Perdo Martinez last year. I really hate fights in sports.

I think A-Rod did the right thing and stuck up for the Yankees and himself. Because the Yankee players have been hit the most this season. I would be fed up too. The Yankees are a great team and I am a proud Yankee fan.

well then how come 2 or 3 red sox players got hit yesterday and just walked to first base without saying a word? why couldn't a-rod do that? what makes him so special that he cal yell "fuck you" multiple times at tek and arroyo and it's ok?

I saw the stats on ESPN's Baseball tonight that Mario Riveria had 5 blown saves at Fenway Park. the place haven't always been kind to Riveria. I saw the 9th innning of that game this past saturday. simply priceless.

Well I'm a proud Yankees fan too - have been for my whole life, and I didn't agree with what A-Rod did (not to say that I agree with what some of the Sox did)). Mistakes were made on both sides.

I was disappointed in A-Rod though...Jeter would have handled it better in my opinion. If you're going to be in the heat of a game like that, keep your mouth shut and go to first.

OK here's how it went down:

1.) Arroyo most likely hits A-Rod on purpose - this is retaliation from earlier in the year, and Arroyo is quickly becoming the guy in charge of delivering retribution (ah the 5th starter . . . love it).

2.) A-Rod is 'informed' by tek why he's hit - we unfortunately can't see how tek does this, but we can see . . .

3.) A-Rod begins screaming "Fuck you" at tek, then motions and says "let's do it"

4.) IMMEDIATELY tek whacks him in the jaw, benches clear (hilarious)

5.) Sturtze throws a punch, Kapler rolls him, luckily it is under control before Papi Ortiz and Trot Nixon make it to Sturtze

Which point escalates the situation?

Personally, I don't have a problem with anyone's behavior - but A-Rod took it to that next level, so don't pull the 'proud franchise' card out to defend that. It's baseball - you get in fights, especially in a sox/yankees series. Retaliation is part of the game, and so is clearing the benches. I just hope this gets the sox in gear - they've been mailing it in for 2 months, totally on cruise control.

Another sox/yanks ALCS would be ridiculous this season . . . perfect baseball.

Crazy stuff.

As for the Yankees/Sox fight...has anyone seen replays of the 70's fights between the clubs (Fisk/Munson, Fisk/Michael, Lee/Nettles, etc.)? Pretty intense stuff.

So two big stories - Andy Pettite may be out for a LONG time with a tendon tear. Any Astro fans care to comment? If so it's too bad, his first year playing near home ending like this.

Then there's Greg Maddux...one win away from 300 wins, one of the cappers to what has been a truly great career. A Hall of Famer, I hope two things:

1) People appreciate the fact that we've been lucky enough to see three truly great pitchers (Maddux, Clemens and Randy Johnson) in the prime of their careers.

2) Scouts will put the radar guns away and look for guys based on numbers and stuff, not just based on a 100 mph fastball.

I wonder if someone other than America will win the World Series this year.

Looks like the white sox are done for. They can't win scoring three runs a game.
