Yeah...folks get happy in the church.

I agree, and I wasn't talking about any specific comments by anyone here lacking in objectivity.

Those fans were the main reason I stopped going to my mom & dad's "country" church back home. I didn't go back until they got AC.

I know. I'm just glad our friends over there haven't invaded this one and made it a GOP-love fest.

not speaking for the moderators, but "we" don't do invasion over here on these pages. Everybody is welcome to contribute and even to disagree (respectfully, of course). But I like to think we adhere to an old cultural saying... "don't start none, won't be none."

That's 'cause the phrases "GOP" and "love-fest" are mutually exclusive.

(What? )

Precisely. Look, we have a few Ave., Blvd. and other NPHC cognoscenti who have differing views, but for the most part, we don't devolve into personal attacks. I'm a registered, independent voter who believes in what some people call "self-reliance liberalism," which calls for the less fortunate to hold up their end of the bargain, if the more fortunate want to give back, as it were.

And I don't feel scared to post that here.

Dissention in the Ranks

I'm not dissenting for dissention's sake, but I noticed the marked lack of Reagan supporters in this thread. Reagan was a great man, and in my opinion, a great President. He is the only President in "recent" years that I can recall never wavering on moral issues. I support Bush, and supported his father, but both of them have been known to try to appease the liberal left while only managing to distance the religious right. Reagan made no qualms about sticking to his values. THAT makes him more of a man than many.

He also took every opportunity to inspire Americans. He once said, “Whatever else history may say about me when I’m gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty’s lamp guiding your steps and opportunity’s arm steadying your way.”

I get chills watching the tape of him standing in front of the Berlin wall and demanding "Mr. Gorbachev tear this wall down!" And did you know that President Gorbachev sent Mrs. Raegan a condolence letter??

I accept your opinions, but couldn't pass the thread without adding my own.

Well, I thank you for your views. However, please be aware that our viewpoints are just different. Apparently, my life and your life under Reagan were very different. To me, I don't see a man who "appealed to my best hopes." During his tenure, a number of things occurred that adversely affected my community. For that reason, I will never (and cannot) have warm fuzzy feelings for that man.

Actually, you could have. Like Isaac Hayes said, just walk on byyyyyyyyy.

And honestly, I'm not trying to be petty, but the spirit of the thread was to find solidarity in my indifference.

Oh, please forgive me. I must have missed the post where you asked for only replies that thought/felt/reacted/lived/breathed the same way that you do. Mistakes happen

Yall are killing me with the church fan comments. I know we had MLK too. Or the ones provided by a local funeral home with a pic of their building on it. *lol*

Was MLK the only type of church fans marketed to us? *lol*

What about the fans with the lil black girl with the pressed hair and the clasped hands? Then there was the fan with the little black boy in his Sunday outfit.

Didn't you hate it when (if you experienced this) the fan became so worn that it had a crease horizontally which made it difficult to fan yourself?
